Looks that talk

1782 Words
Jazmine’s pov I couldn't sleep, everytime I closed my eyes I saw those blood red eyes and those razor sharp teeth that held the promise of death in their clutches. It was as if I was back in those dark woods, the only thing I could hear was the sound of fighting, and even as I lay holding onto my best friend, I could still hear those growls. And the memory was haunting. What was that thing? Never in my life had I seen anything like it! The sun eventually rose, pulling a sigh of relief from my lips. I knew daylight couldn't stop those creatures from finding us and ripping us apart, but at the same time, it felt safer than night. “Wren” Chelsea moaned as she stirred in my arms, her face looking like she was in distress. Urg, what was wrong with this girl? Why was she so obsessed with werewolves? She almost got killed last night and her precious Wren was nowhere to be found. She was left for dead! It was a good fifteen minutes before she fully woke up and she was calling out for that wolf girl the entire time. “Where's Wren? Jazmine? How did I get here? Where's Wren?!” She was frantic when she asked where Wren was the second time and I just rolled my eyes. “I don't know” I said, getting out of bed, my body too sluggish to allow me to move but my annoyance and growing anger fuelled me just enough to put distance between us before I put my hands on her. “How did I get home? Did Wren drop me off?” She asked, sitting up and holding onto her head as she grimaced. “f**k Chelsea! Wren didn't bring you home, I did! I risked my f*****g life and all you can think about is your stupid wolf friend?!” I screamed at her, my anger boiling over. “What?” She raised her gaze to meet mine, confusion and worry dancing in her bloodshot eyes. I shook my head as tears stung my eyes, trying to fight them off. I couldn't believe her! In my frustration, and not wanting to say something I'd regret once I was okay, I left, pulling the door a little harder than I intended, causing it to bang behind me. I needed a good three cups of coffee before I could even look her in the eye. I fell onto a chair the second I entered the kitchen, my legs giving out, a lone tear running down my cheeks. Suddenly filled with grief and regret; I felt like I'd lost her already, and a small part of me regretted putting my life in danger for someone that didn't care about themselves! A loud banging on the door made my heart stop as I raised my head and jumped out of my chair, the first thing coming to mind was that creature had followed us home. “Chelsea! Chelsea open the door!” Wren's frantic yelling coupled with the banging quickly replaced my fear with anger. Why the hell was she here?! Wiping my tears, I marched to the front door, the sound of a door slamming and rushed footsteps not lost to my ears. “What do you want?!” I literally growled at her the second I swung the door open, but she just barreled through me, slamming me against the wall. “Wren!” Chelsea's cry made it to my ears as I tried to get myself together. What the actual f**k. “I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, are you hurt?” Wren went from crushing Chelsea in her embrace to giving her a body inspection. “No, she's not hurt, no thanks to you!” My anger rose even higher at the thought of her pretending to care when she'd left Chelsea all by herself in the woods filled with monsters like herself. “Jazmine stop it!” Chelsea said sternly, her eyes narrowed as if chastising a child. “No, I won't! She left you for dead! Drunk beyond imaginable to fend for yourself against things I can't even explain!” I was histerical at this point. “I would never do that!” Wren growled, her pupils turning black, which, I will admit, scared me a little but I refused to back down. I wouldn't let her intimidate me. If I let them keep seeing each other, my best friend would end up dead and I wasn't about to let that happen. “Yes you did! If it wasn't for me, she would've been dead!” I yelled, watching her eyes turn back to normal and look away in shame. “Being your friend puts her in danger! And I won't allow it anymore!” I stepped towards them and grabbed Chelsea's hand to pull her to my side but she pulled back, literally molding herself to Wren, who was growling as she stared daggers at me. “Jazmine enough!” Chelsea looked fed up with me and I couldn't understand why, I had saved her life when her wolf friend left her to party it up with death. “What the f**k is wrong you?!” I felt like exploding, if I had a gun, I'd shoot them both! “You don't get to make that decision for me Jazmine!” If looks could kill, Chelsea and her wolf friend would be digging a shallow grave for me as we speak. “My God!” A harsh laugh bubbled out of me, I couldn't believe this. Someone pinch me because I swear this is a dream. “Why do you do this to yourself?! Why are you friends with f*****g werewolves Chelsea?! They're f*****g monsters and you almost got mauled to pieces just a few hours ago! Why must you do this to yourself?! To me?!” I was filled with rage, my voice rose beyond anything I thought I was capable of. I wanted to kill her with my bare hands, I wanted to rip her apart myself! “Wren is my mate Jazmine!” It took a good minute for her words to fully digest, a very long and confusing minute. I didn't bother to know about werewolves and their lifestyle but I did know a few things, and a mate is one of those things. A life partner, soulmate, however you want to call it. Someone that was made for you, someone you'd spend the rest of your life with, bound together by an unbreakable bond, unless they reject you of course. “What?” I whispered, too shocked to produce a sound beyond that. “Yes I'm gay Jazmine” she said, with a bit of fear dancing in her eyes but that hadn't even clocked yet, all I could think about was that she had a mate, and it was a wolf! “I don't care if you're a unicorn Chelsea! You have a mate?! How? You're human!” I exclaimed, breathless. They shared a look that spoke volumes, Chelsea pleading while Wren looked tired, of what? I wished they would tell me. “It's rare, but it does happen, having human mates” Wren said quietly, her gaze switching from me to Chelsea when she said human mates. There was something they weren't telling me. My anger returned and I glared at Wren, “why the hell did you leave her all alone?! Aren't you supposed to protect her?!” I yelled, watching her look away with clenched fists. “I tried to get her to safety but there were too many, I lost sight of her, I'm so sorry” the last words weren't for me, she looked like she was about to cry as she looked at Chelsea grief stricken. “I'm okay, I'm right here” Chelsea comforted her, hugging her tightly. Suddenly feeling out of place, I turned to leave, only to pause mid step as the image of that creature came to mind. “What was that thing?” I asked, causing them to break apart. “What are you talking about?” Wren asked, her look of confusion a little too convincing but I knew she knew what I was talking about. “That creature that almost killed us!” Her fake confusion was annoying, “a demonized version of a wolf, or whatever” I tried to explain what I saw but got a little confused myself. “A dead one?! You came in contact with a dead one and survived?!” Her shock chilled me to the bone. “Jazmine…” Chelsea began but lost her words as she stared at me in shock and yes, they were scaring me. Was I not supposed to survive? They shared another look and this time I couldn't let it go. “Okay what's with the looks? And what the hell is a dead one?!” I wanted to stomp my foot but feared I'd look like a child. “Tell me exactly what happend when you came across the dead one” Wren said, looking so serious it unnerved me. “I found Chelsea, saw the thing and picked up a stick. It ran away after a while” I said, their looks making me very nervous. “It just left?!” Chelsea's eyes were wide and I gulped. “Y.. yeah, I mean it sniffed at me. Oh and there was someone, something…? I don't know, it was in the trees, but disappeared before I could make out what it was” I stuttered a little. They shared another look and I swear I was about to scream for them to tell me what was going on! The house phone rang before I could ask any questions and Chelsea went to pick it. “What's a dead one?” I asked Wren, who was doing a pretty good job at avoiding eye contact with me. “Creatures that were made by a witch, turning Lycans into mindless killing machines” she said, making my heart race. “Lycans? As in bigger, stronger, faster than a werewolf?” I asked, terror filling my bones. Werewolves were already so much stronger than humans, what of Lycans? “Yes, now imagine it rabid, with the need to destroy everything in sight, it's not possible to just survive a dead one Jazmine” she said, her gaze hard. “That was Judy, she needs us for a special breakfast thing at the diner” Chelsea said, her words lost to the sea of horror I was drowning in.
