Jazmine's pov
I felt my knees shake as Wren's words sunk in, forever staining the world as I knew it.
And I here I thought it was dark enough with werewolves in it.
And who would have known witches were a real thing?! What other mythical creature isn't so mythical?!
“The two of you should have died” Wren said with clenched fist and I felt myself seeking out the wall to balance myself.
I already knew it was the work of God we were alive but hearing Wren say it broke something in me.
I genuinely could have died, that dumb trick with the stick couldn't have saved us.
“Why were we never told about something like this?” I whispered, thinking about everyone in town.
“Something so dangerous!” I pushed off the wall, feeling anger boil within me, even though there was something much deeper that was making me angry.
“People's lives are in danger!” I yelled, feeling like I was losing my mind, fear and anger raging through my veins.
“The pack can protect the town, there's no need to alarm people. And we've called for help” Wren said with a sigh and something in me exploded, making my body heat up rapidly.
Where was her stupid pack the night my mother died?!
There, I found it, the truth fuelling my anger.
My mouth suddenly felt dry and all the rage washed away, leaving behind a deep sadness that almost brought me to my knees.
Werewolves hadn't killed my mother, Chelsea was right, and I was wrong this whole time.
“Mom” I whispered, my knees finally losing strength, letting me crumble to the floor in a sobbing heap.
I could have suffered the same fate as my mother.
“Why didn't you tell me?” I asked, failing to raise my head and face them.
“It wasn't my place to tell you” Chelsea said, her voice failing her as she also broke down, kneeling in front of me.
“What does that even mean? You're my best friend, you're supposed to tell me?” I sobbed, the need to know giving me the strength I needed to look her in the eye.
The guilt and sorrow in her eyes made her turn her head away, refusing to tell me.
“Jazmine…” she tried to say something but couldn't, shaking her head instead and steeling her gaze before looking back at me.
“Look, we can talk about this later, Judy needs us. And if you're not up to it, then I'll cover for you” she said, wiping away her tears.
“Who are you protecting? Over me?!” I asked, not once believing that she'd put someone else over me.
“Are you coming or not” she was unyielding, but something lit in me, determination.
I will get it out of her, even if it breaks me!
…
“Girls! I'm so happy you could make it!” Judy chirped as we walked into the diner.
“Hi Judy” I greeted with a small smile, to which she tilted her head to the side, observing me closely.
“You don't look well dear, you can go home if you need, I'm sure we can manage without you. It's just a few people” she said with a warm smile, and as tired as I was, I knew I'd spiral if I was alone.
“No Judy, I need this, please don't send me away” I pleaded, watching her warmth turn to worry.
“Alright love, and I'm so sorry to call you in on your day off, I promise I'll pay you handsomely” she said, a motherly smile gracing her beautiful face.
“Oh, thank you Judy!” Chelsea exclaimed with a huge smile, making the older woman laugh.
“The Alpha asked to go all out, let's get to it” she said, making her way to the kitchen and we followed.
We made sure the place was spotless, the people coming were apparently royalty and we had to give them the very best of service.
I opted to stay in the kitchen with Judy because I really wasn't at my best, and didn't want Judy to lose points because I couldn't do my job well enough.
We'd been at it for a good two hours and everyone was crazy nervous, at least that's what I was feeling.
My heart hammered against my chest wildly, palms sweating and butterflies taking permanent residence in my stomach.
I felt like I was going crazy, my senses were all over the place and I felt an intense heat at the bottom of my stomach, something similar to arousal.
At some point, I felt like I couldn't even breathe, guess I'm a lot more shaken up than I thought.
“Oh my Goddess they're here!” Kristen squealed as she peeked at them through the round window in the middle of the door separating the kitchen and dining space.
I don't know why but my heart skipped a couple of beats and I wished I had the audacity to do what Kristen was doing.
“Get away from that window! We don't want them thinking we're snooping” Judy said with a small frown.
“They won't even see me, relax Judy” Kristen said, waving Judy off, who just sighed and shook her head.
“My God! Those guys are so hot! And is that an elf! I've never seen one before!” She went on and on, and God forbid the need to replace her right now.
“Stop acting stupid and go get their orders dummy!” Chelsea waved at Kristen, who seemed too eager to be in the presence of royalty.
I felt an electric charge run through me, causing me to drop the knife I'd been using to chop the tomatoes Judy had asked for.
“You okay Jazzy?” Chelsea asked and I just nodded.
“Oh. My. God!! The hottest guy in the f*****g world just walked in!” Kristen said, her voice breathless and a part of me was jealous she got to see him and I didn't.
“Kristen! Go!” Chelsea whisper yelled, making the girl snap into action and rush out, leaving me as jealous as ever.
She came back a good two minutes later, blushing like an i***t, but with their beverage orders.
We quickly prepared everything and sent her out with the order, hoping, praying, it was to their royal liking.
She came back again looking flushed, breathing a little heavy, making me wonder what had happened out there, but didn't have much time to dwell on it as we prepared their food.
Kristen spent the entire time taking not so subtle peeks at them, blowing air at her face, gushing about how hot they were, especially the one she thought was the Lycan Prince.
“Chelsea, you take these out, Kristen looks like she could use some air” Judy said, making Kristen whip away from the door, ready to argue but Judy gave her a stern look.
Chelsea quickly packed the plates on two large trays, which meant she'd have to make two runs.
“I don't want to go out there twice” she moaned nervously as she pushed the door open with her body.
“Jazmine, I need help!” she called out to me, a little louder than I would have liked, making my heart beat insanely fast as a fire sparked within me, burning every vein as it consumed my body.
Hesitantly, I went to take the other tray and went out as she held the door open. The second I walked out that door, my eyes locked onto purple orbs that lit my soul up.
My world faded in that instant and everything stopped, time didn't even exist as I lost myself in a purple ocean.
“Jazmine, move” Chelsea whispered into my ear, startling me back to reality and I began the longest ten foot walk of my life, trying hard to not trip and fall over my wobbly knees.
What was happening to me? I felt like I was a living, breathing flame that burnt hotter as I got closer to the table.
And his burning gaze wasn't helping!
It made me feel things I didn't think I'd ever feel for a man, being so focused on getting out of this wretched town, I denied myself simple bodily pleasures, not wanting anything to tie to me to this place.
Against my better judgement, I raised my eyes to meet his again as we got to the table, I felt the world and everyone in it slip away.
“I don't know who ordered what so I'm going to need your help getting you your food” was the last thing I heard as I drifted slowly, into a world only he and I existed.
I don't know how to explain what was happening but it was like I could feel him, the heat radiating off of his body, his pulse, the rushed flow of his blood.
And maybe, just maybe, I had started losing my senses because I swear I heard him in my mind, a voice deep and rough. Awakening a burning desire to touch him, feel him.
“Mate!” It roared, making me weaker than I already was.
As if on instinct, I moved closer, he was sitting at the end of the booth and if I got close enough, I could touch him like my fingers itched to do.
“Jazmine” I felt a hand on me before I heard the call and I blinked a few times, returning to the present to find everybody's eyes on me.
“The food” Chelsea said, holding out her hand to take the tray as she looked at me suspiciously, but also with a hint of worry in her eyes.
“Sorry” I muttered as we exchanged trays and I took the empty one.
My body grew hot with embarrassment as everyone kept their curious gazes firmly on me.
“I don't believe it!” A strange looking girl said with a wide smile, and when I looked up at her, her sparkling eyes somehow familiar.
The need to look at those purple eyes again seemed to burn, and realising I was just standing there with an empty tray, I quickly turned on my heels and rushed back to the kitchen, refusing to get lost in in him again.
“Wait! Don't run” a voice, as rough as the coldest of winter and as smooth as velvet reached my ears, bringing me to a sudden halt.
My breathing was ragged, and everything in me wanted to turn around but I was scared, scared of being lost again.
Scared of wanting more, what more it was I wanted? I couldn't tell you, I just knew I wanted more.
I felt myself literally get absorbed by heat as his body pressed against my back, electricity frying every last brain cell I possessed.
“Mate” his whisper was the loudest sound I'd ever heard and everything I knew and was, disappeared into the possibility of him and I.
Mate, I was his mate, he was mine…
Wait! What?!
