Since papa’s death, mama has wanted me to get out of the business. She has begged me on many occasions, forgetting that once you’re in, you’re in for life.
At the start, all she saw was the money, the status and the power. She happily practically skipped down the aisle to papa. He saved her failing family business and gave her the financial stability she always craved.
She just ignored the rest, which I never truly believed until after papa’s death. That’s when I saw how naive she truly was.
In the end, she drove my younger brother, Carlo, and sister, Serena, away. Both live in London now. Carlo is the second in London, but Serena was never in the family business. She just lives happily with her executive husband, head firmly in the sand outside of London.
