Suddenly afraid, Ainsley began pulling on her hand as soon as they emerged onto a sidewalk. It prompted Seb to stop running, but it took him longer to respond to what Ainsley was wordlessly asking him to do. He looked at their joined hands and released his hold. “You okay?” he asked when he then noticed how hard Ainsley was breathing and how flushed her face was. Ainsley shook her head to indicate she was fine, but from one swing of the head to the next, she stopped. She hadn’t realized how heavy her long hair had become until she lost almost all of it.
