Chapter 5: Fun

Kael’s pov “Interesting, you have a proposal for me?” I asked her and she nodded. I watched how she took a deep breath and then looked up at me. “I will sacrifice myself to you,” she said firmly, and I looked at her, confused. She will sacrifice herself to me? What does she mean by that? I looked at her and waited for her to elaborate. “If you kill me now, you will get better for a century or two but then the sickness will come back,” she said, and I looked at her, confused. What is she talking about? Her death could cure me completely; her blood is a cure to my condition. “What are you talking about?” I asked her, and she sighed. “It is a long story and I don’t know how else to explain it,” she said. “I need your help to kill the immortal witches,” she said, and I looked at her, surprised. How does she even know about that? Their existence is a secret guarded carefully and has been for years. “And if I help you kill the immortal witches, you will happily give yourself to me?” I asked her and she nodded at this. I looked at her, and she doesn’t seem like someone who is deceptive. But this, coming from me, is a little funny because I know exactly what people are capable of. I know how someone can hide their intention like a snake. Witches, they can’t be trusted at all. She might look innocent, and maybe that is what she truly wants now. But the temptation of living is way too much for someone to resist. If I help her and she suddenly changes her mind, that won’t be good for me. And asking me to take on the most powerful group of people for her is a little too ambitious even for her. She looks innocent enough, but can she be trusted? “Why should I trust a witch?” I asked her with an amused smile. I am willing to hear her out because I am honestly curious about what it is that she truly wants. “I’m not asking for your trust. I’m asking for your cooperation. You want me dead for your own benefit, so I don’t trust you as well,” she replied. I watched as she sighed and then looked around. “I am desperate enough to make this proposal, doesn’t that say anything?” she asked me. I nodded at this; she could have just easily walked off after she woke up. It’s not like I was going to keep her here; I had no reason to. Nothing about her betrays that she is the girl I was looking for. “Still, you’re a witch, and I can’t bring myself to work with one. Not after everything witches have done to me,” I said. What else will she say to try and convince me to help her? I expected her to talk about how she is not like the other witches, that she is different. That is how most people think of themselves. They think they are special, and because of that, people should listen to them no matter what. They think that the rules don’t apply to them in any way. Does she think she is special? However, instead of saying something snarky or she just nodded as if she understood my pain. I looked at her eyes, and it was as if she saw the world the same way I do. I looked outside. The sun was setting, but I never saw the beauty everyone talks about. Birds flew past, but nothing about them felt special to me. I guess it’s because I have lived for so long that I don’t appreciate it anymore. I have seen countless birds, countless sunsets, but none of them feel special anymore. I looked at her, and she sighed as she looked at me. “The truth is, I hate this world and everything in it. I’ve thought of destroying it all, but I don’t have the power,” she said, and she seemed somewhat defeated. I couldn’t help but laugh at this. She looks so innocent, so it was quite a surprise that those words came out of her mouth. It was surprising that those beautiful green eyes could hold so much hatred inside her. “You’re serious. You’re cute and all, but I wouldn’t destroy the world for you,” I said to see her reaction. She sighed. “Let me explain it simply. You want to live, and my body lets you do that. I want to die, but before I go, I want to take a few people down with me,” she said with venom in her voice. I nodded, and I couldn’t help but chuckle as I looked at her. “And since you don’t have the power, you want me to help you?” I asked her once again just to make sure. “Yes,” she answered casually. Betting her life like it is nothing. “What’s stopping me from taking you now and using you for the spell myself?” I asked her, I don’t know why, but I like her answers. “Frankly, I don’t care. You can kill me if you want,” she answered. Didn’t I tell you? I love her answers, and who wouldn’t? I stepped closer, brushed a few strands of hair from her face, and sighed. I like her answers, but it bothers me that she doesn’t care about living. “Why do you want to die so badly? There’s a whole world out there: music, art, beautiful cities. Don’t you want to see them? Life has so many pleasures to offer. Food, fine wine… s*x,” I said, eyes fixed on hers. “I don’t care about any of it. Will you help me with my revenge?” she asked me, and I nodded. “It’s been centuries since someone stirred my curiosity. This Vampire Prince will help you,” I asked and then paused. “However, during this whole process, I owe you. Your body, your mind, your life, they all belong to me,” I declared, and she nodded. “I don’t care what you do with me,” she answered. This looks like it’s going to be fun, doesn’t it?
