Chapter 3: Luck

Kael’s pov “And that is all for today,” the Vampire King, and also the leader of The Order, said. He also happens to be my father. He walked off while the rest of us remained seated until he wasn’t in the room anymore. “Wow, you look terrible, Vampire Prince. Should I be concerned?” Matt asked me. I looked at him. This kid thinks that he can scare me. Well, calling him a kid would be a bit of an exaggeration on my part. But he is still 10 years younger than I am. Although he looks almost like he is in his early 60s or late 50s. But I am still older than him, which means to me he is young. You see, in our world appearances can be deceiving, and I mean that literally as well. I am 300 years old, and Matt is around 290 years old. You see, I am a vampire just like my father, unless that wasn’t clear yet. I say that appearance can be deceiving because we all look the age we were when we were turned into vampires. I was turned when I was in my late 20s, so I still look like a person who is in their late 20s. While Matt here got turned when he was in his late 50s. “Why would you be concerned? This has nothing to do with you,” I said, and he chuckled at this. “I see, I am guessing that the time has come for you to die,” he said without hiding the smile on his face. He has been wanting to create a place for his useless son on The Order, and if I die, his son will get the seat. I guess he still hates me for what I did a century ago when a seat was open. I nominated a friend of mine who was later chosen instead of his son. I understand why he would hate me. Being part of The Order is a rare opportunity and comes with a lot of benefits. You see, other vampires and supernatural beings live under our rules. They need to follow certain rules and laws, while if you are a member, some laws and rules don’t apply. Not to mention the influence and money that comes along with it. “I wouldn’t be so confident if I were you. I still have some time left,” I responded with a smile of my own. I watched how his smile didn’t drop, but he smiled even more at this. “Look at you acting all strong, I can smell the stench of death coming off you,” he said, and then sighed. He put his hands in his pockets and then chuckled at this. “I have never been on the brink of death before. Is it scary? Are you scared that you are going to die?” he asked me. I wish I could strangle the life out of him, but I don’t have the power or energy to do that now. That b***h, did this all because I told her that I didn’t love her. Well, I said it after using her for my own benefit. That’s what I get for messing with a witch; she gave away her life just so one day I could die. Sacrificed herself to one day end my life. Normal people would accept that they were used and they weren’t loved, and move on. But no, witches aren’t like that. They would rather burn your world down and theirs in the process just to make you pay. And here I am listening to the taunts of idiots like Matt. I could have easily broken his neck a long time ago. But now, standing up is a challenge on its own. “Die already, you have been holding on for decades. You should just die already,” Matt added and walked off. “Do you want me to make him pay for that?” Justin asked me, and I shook my head. Justin is my bodyguard, because of my condition, I have been reduced to a man who needs a bodyguard. If I could, if I could, I would kill every single witch in this world. That is how great my anger and wrath are. “Your father is calling you,” my father’s henchman said, and I nodded at this. I walked to my father’s office and found him looking outside the window. “You smell like death,” he said, and I sighed at this. “I only have about a year left. If I don’t find that girl this year, then I will die,” I informed him. He turned around and looked at me. “You still don’t want my help? You are my only son, and I can’t sit still and watch you die,” he said, and I scoffed at this. “Please save your concern, father, I would rather die than accept your help,” I said and turned to leave. “Will you ever forgive me? It’s been centuries now,” he said. I looked at him and then shook my head. “I don’t care how long it has been. I can never forgive you for what you did,” I said and then walked off. I don’t even want to think about it at all. I would rather die than accept help from that man. “You seem pissed,” Lola said as she was standing against the wall. “I am pissed, what the hell do you want?” I asked her, and she smiled at this. “Is this how you talk to your long-time friend?” she asked me and then chuckled. I was about to walk away when she handed me a folder, and I looked at it, confused. A coven leader was brutally killed a few months ago. “Why should this interest me?” I asked her, and she smiled and walked off. Lola has always been one to leave behind Easter eggs, and I hate that about her. Instead of telling me what I want to hear up front, she would rather play some game that I have no interest in. I looked through the file, and the coven leader who was killed was of the coven that the girl I want was born in. As I read the file more, I realized that a few days after he was killed, his wife also died from illness. Lola wouldn’t give something unless she knew that I needed the information. His wife died from an illness, and a few days later, he was killed. How does that have anything to do with me? Wait, the girl I am looking for can heal any illness. And the man was suddenly killed a few days after his wife died from an illness. This could mean that maybe he tried to save his wife. I mean, his resolve could be shaken as he watched his wife reach the brink of death. And maybe he got ideas to try and save his wife, and he was killed for it. This whole time, I was operating under the idea that the girl had been moved a long time ago. When she was 14 years old and her entire family was killed. I was so sure that they would hide her somewhere far where I couldn’t find her. But what if they didn’t take her anywhere far? What if they didn’t want to risk moving her while I was on the lookout? During that incident, I had all eyes on that coven, and yet I couldn’t find her. I just thought that they wouldn’t be stupid enough to keep her in that coven. It would have been a risky move, but maybe that is what makes it so perfect. It is so risky that I thought that they wouldn’t do it. But what if she has been there the whole time? Justin drove me, and I stopped outside their small town. Vampires aren’t allowed in this town at all. Only humans, witches, and werewolves can go beyond their borders. And werewolves are doing so at their own risk because their strengths are messed with by magic. I looked at the lights from miles away, and I felt so helpless as I stood there. I hate this more than anything in the world. She might be somewhere in that town, and I can’t even go there at all. If I believed in god, I would have prayed that she would come running into my arms. But that’s impossible, right? Why would she run into the arms of a man who wants her dead? I was about to return to my car when I noticed a shadow in the forest. I stopped to look at what was happening when a girl appeared out of the forest. I looked at her; her long red hair was stuck to her face, and she was sweating profusely. I looked at her legs, which were now bleeding from running barefoot. She looked at me, and I watched how her eyes widened. She ran into my arms, and I watched as she begged me with her eyes. “Help me,” she whispered before collapsing in my hands. I looked at her, and the direction she was coming from was the coven. If I help her, then she might know a few things about the girl I am looking for. I believe her name is Iris, well, if I knew this would happen, then I would have wished that Iris was the one who fell into my arms. I picked up the girl and went to my car, and we drove off. Well, maybe there is a god out there somewhere. I mean, how else would you explain this? With this girl’s help, I will find Iris. Well, looks like my luck hasn’t run out yet.
