Chapter 12. Freedom Gwen slipped out quietly, her heels clicking against the marble floor like whispers daring to betray her. Damien didn’t know. He thought she was upstairs napping, but she was already halfway down the driveway when one of his men spotted her. “Miss Gwen,” the man called, jogging closer. “Where are you headed? I’ll drive you.” Gwen gave him a polite smile, the kind that cut off any further offers. “It’s business. I’ll be fine on my own.” The cab she had ordered pulled up just then, saving her from another question. Without hesitation, she slid inside and closed the door before the man could argue.
