CHAPTER SIXTEEN

1051 Words
-YURI HANNA- My brain has a lot of unexpected information to handle. Still unsure how to react to what I had discovered, I headed to my room to prepare for a long drive to Bloody Paws to hide the prince, whom Lyme Peterson refers to as the Dark Prince. "Seriously? Am I tasked to protect him?" If he's as strong and dangerous as the legend claims, what's the point of fending off him against Dallas and his band of assassins if he can protect himself and is only appearing to be weak by using a lanky frail body? And, if he is the Psychos who has killed so many werewolves in the past, may he constitute a threat not only to rogues but to all wolf packs around the world? Should I be wary of him? Aside from seeking refuge, is there another reason why he's sent to the east? It's only been a few days since I met the prince, and while I'm getting acclimated to him, if he's going to cause major problems for my pack and companions, I won't hesitate to exterminate him. Nonetheless, something inside of me believes in Prince Killah. Yes, he's kind of peculiar, but I could see in his eyes that he wouldn't harm us. Or am I just being pompous and attempting to persuade myself? Walking straight to bed, my head throbbed, and I felt like my balance was slipping. I lay down for a few minutes to clear my mind and just as I was ready to relax, the door creaked open and closed, and footfalls entered the chamber, completely invading my privacy, A familiar aroma permeated the four corners, and I was flooded with emotion as soon as I sniffed it, but I didn't move because doing so would be ridiculous for a sensible second in command like me. "The Beta of White Fang is an interesting guy, don't you think, my dearest bodyguard?" My eyelids closed tightly and I sighed in irritation. 'Heck! Is it necessary for him to follow me and invite him in without my permission? Is it necessary for him to speak in that tone? It tickles my ears and makes me shudder. No one has ever had such an impact on me as the prince. And why should it be him of all the werewolves in that realm? Only the Moon Goddess knows. The bed trembled when the familiar presence sat at my side, darting me out of my reverie. My palm moved to stroke my temple, and I opened my eyes to stare at the prince who was leaning over me, our distance only a hair's breadth apart. His lovely golden hair flowed like velvet curtains over the sides of our faces, and my other hands twitched as I battled the urge to stroke it with my fingers. "Tell me highness, do you know what personal space is?" I asked Prince Killah in hushed tones, gulping the lump in my throat, and looked into his clear emerald-green eyes. As his gaze slid from my eyes down to my slightly parched lips, the corner of his mouth drew up. "Is this impertinent lord making you feel uncomfortable, hun?" My eyes rolled sarcastically. Isn't it self-evident? He's been a shameless flirt even from the start, and day by day, he's getting worse. And as of that moment, he was too close for comfort; I could feel the warmth of his body, making me dizzy, while my wolf Haede mewled and acted like a lusty cat at the back of my mind. "Do you realize it's not proper for a prince to behave like this around his bodyguard? Unless, of course, his majesty wishes his lowly servant to lose her head." My tone became solemn. I need to make him realize that his teasing could only get him so far and possibly get me killed by the royal family. "If you're thinking this will change my mind about getting you a new watchdog once we reach Bloody Paws, you are mistaken, Your Highness." Before he screws my mind much more and sways my reserve, I must cut whatever connection we have. The prince, on the other hand, was not easily disheartened as his hand lifted and brushed the scowl on my brow with the tip of his slender fingers. "You're not going to get rid of me easily, Yuri Hanna. Not now that I've decided to make you mine." "Are you insane or just bored?" I snarled at him, annoyed at how easily he could crack jokes without considering how an unmated shifter like me would react. Shoving his hand away, I stood up and glared at him. "If you want to have fun while staying here in the East, don't involve me in it. I have more important things to accomplish than play your fine games, Your Highness." As I paced to the door to get away from him, my grip on the door handle was interrupted by a powerful wind blowing behind me. A hand shot toward my side, but despite being startled, I managed to deflect it and lash my fist back at none other than the prince. I just hit the air, much to my dismay. What on earth does he think he's doing? Why does he keep provoking me? Prince Killah, with a smug sneer on his lips, rushed quickly around me, and his other hand sprang at me again, aiming for the neckline of my T-shirt, but I seized his wrist and drew him closer to me, my eyes narrowing. "You are so f*****g annoying!" I exclaimed, my face red with anger, but the prince pushed his luck even further by pressing me to a neighboring wall and squeezing me to the surface with his frame. Again, his fragrance overpowered my senses, and my heart began to rush as it usually does when he's around, causing me to toss my head and curse under my heavy breathing. "Damn it! Why must it be you?" I may not be the brightest being in the world, but it's easy to understand why I was having that physiological reaction around the prince. Prince Killah's eyes glinted in delight as he stared down at me, as if he knew my question. "Finally, you acknowledged it, mate."
