The ferry ride back to Victoria felt endless, each wave against the boat a soft but insistent reminder of everything I wanted to leave behind on the mainland. I hadn’t said much to Cassandra as we boarded, and she hadn’t pushed. She just looked at me with a sad understanding, sensing the heavy storm brewing within me. After everything that had happened, silence was a welcome reprieve.
