We’d made it into the maternity ward, when Lei came to a grinding halt. “Wait.” He’d been silent and calm on the short drive over, but now his cheeks were flushed and his eyes were nearly feverish. I had to bite my tongue so as not to insist he take half a pill. He was down to an eighth of his dosage and soon to be completely medication-free. He hadn’t gone through all those restless nights, jittery mornings and near panic attacks to fall off the wagon tonight.
