The air crackled with tension. The distant sound of battle cries and snarls filled the forest, but all Raven could focus on was the murderous gleam in the witch’s eyes as she locked onto Cora.
“Oh, you’re dead!” the witch hissed before lunging toward the little wolf.
Time slowed.
Raven’s heart slammed against her ribs as she moved on instinct. With a snarl, she launched herself forward, clamping her jaws onto the witch’s outstretched arm before she could reach Cora. The metallic taste of blood flooded Raven’s mouth, thick and hot, as the witch let out a strangled scream.
“Let go, you damn b***h!” the witch shrieked, clawing at Raven’s hair, her nails scraping against her scalp.
