The Past

Willow was running out of options. And Terrance was running out patience. Brianna’s power was exceeding her own and it was becoming worse. Either her mother was putting the patches on weak, or Brianna was just that powerful. And while Willow had a feeling it was the latter, it was easier for Terrance to blame Sage. “She’s obviously trying to make this happen and I told you, no!” He barked at his wife harshly. Willow of course hated the disciplinary tone he took up with her like she was inept. Terrance sometimes forgot she was his wife not one of his coworkers or kids he could bark at. “I remember that clearly,” she told him not bothering to hide her anger, “But it’s been harder and now she’s starting to realize something is wrong. I can’t keep lying to her and making her feel like she’s crazy.” Looking out in the backyard, Terrance was pissed seeing his little daughter talking to air. And while some might think it was cute, she had an imaginary friend, Terrance knew it wasn’t imaginary. And it wasn’t a friend, she was speaking to family. “She’s outside talking to your Uncle Bub right now. A dead man is using my daughter as his walkie talkie to insult me from his grave in New Orleans!” Slamming a hand on the counter, Terrance boomed, “I told you that our daughter won’t be apart of this s**t so why is it she’s outside talking to dead people?” Yelling back Willow cried out, “I. DON’T. KNOW!” Terrance froze as his wife broke in front of him, “Do you think I like this!? I don’t! I’ve tried everything to put this s**t behind me! But low and behold, it’s come back and it’s not like how it was with Jeremy. She won’t stay bound like he did.” Wringing her hands, Willow worried, “She might not be able to stay bound. And I don’t know what to do about this Terrance. And you yelling at me isn’t going to stop what’s happening.” Scared at what his wife was saying, Terrance turned to look at the six-year-old Brianna. Being pushing by an invisible force Terrance could see she wasn’t kicking her legs to move. But she was going mighty high and it worried him. Starting to go to the door to tell her to be careful, he watched her jump suddenly. And as he and Willow rushed to the back to help her up, they found her instead flying in the air. Whirling around as the wind blew around her, Willow felt her daughter’s magic in the air. Deeming it incredible as Brianna landed from the air gracefully, Terrance deemed it wrong. Squealing not knowing anything was wrong, Brianna ran to her pops so happy. “Daddy, daddy! I flew! Did you see me?” Fear mixed with stress had Terrance grabbing his daughter’s shoulders tight. “You didn’t fly did you hear me? You jumped and you almost broke your neck! Never do that again!” Scared at the yelling, Brianna pulled from her dad and fell back. But she stumbled and hit her head making her cry out. Willow cursed at her husband, worse than she ever have before. Beating his chest screaming how terrible he was. After, Terrance was docile and ashamed, Willow picked up Brianna and took her to Mama Rosa. It was offensive to her mother, but Willow needed a patch that wasn’t based on love. So, after paying a grand to the older Mexican woman, she was waved into her home. Walking inside as her familia watched them, the Brujos accepted the money, but her brown eyes were knowing. With her long brown hair flowing behind her in a braid, Mama Rosa tossed the money to one of her sons. Her daughter appeared and scooped the trembling Brianna up gently. As her daughter, Maria crooned to Brianna in Spanish, Mama Rosa turned to Willow. “You keep doing this, and you’ll smite those you worship. Her gifts won’t be denied.” Willow didn’t comment, she knew this already. Had witnessed it and as she watched Mama Rosa put her daughter in a tub of herbs and potions, she felt it. She’d already smite those she worshipped, and eventually, they’d come to collect.
