Chapter 14

1075 Words
Peter's pov “Cerene! f**k, what happened to you?!” I burst into the guest room and the sight nearly knocked the air out of my lungs. Caroline was gone, the silk ties I’d used on her cut and scattered on the floor. For a long moment, that terrified me even more. “My...My wife....where is my wife?!" My chest heaving, sweat forming on my forehead. But the second I saw Cerene curled on the blood-soaked sheets, clutching her stomach as blood poured between her fingers. “She....she...“ She stammered in-between sobs. Her face was deathly pale, eyes wide with terror, and the moment she saw me she let out a heart-wrenching scream. “Peter! Peter, help me!” she cried, reaching out with blood-stained hands. “The baby… I’m losing our baby! There’s so much blood, it won’t stop… please, I can’t lose the baby!” I dropped to my knees beside the bed so fast my legs slammed against the frame. Seeing the red liquid washed away all the worries I had for Caroline. Indeed she was vicious and a monster. Cerene had warned me so many times that she could be violent, but I never listened. I gave her the benefit of doubt like a fool I was. My hands shook as I pulled her into my arms, pressing one palm hard against her stomach like I could somehow hold everything inside. The warm blood immediately soaked through my shirt, sticking the fabric to my skin. Her whole body trembled violently against mine, and I could feel how cold she was getting. “I’m here, I’m right here,” I said, my voice cracking as I rocked her gently. “You’re going to be okay. Just breathe, let me call your parents ....This is so bad...I’ve got you.” She buried her face in my neck, sobbing so hard her entire frame shook. “It hurts so bad… I felt a sharp pain the second Caroline attacked me and then the bleeding started… our baby is dying inside me, Peter. I can feel it slipping away. Don’t let me lose him… please, I need him. I need both of you.” Her words hit me like a punch to the gut. I won't lie, I didn't feel that special bond each time she cried that it's our baby. After all, she took my sperm without permission. Talking about it isn't the same as taking a step to do the process. I held her tighter, one arm wrapped around her back while the other kept pressure on her stomach. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. This wasn’t the usual fragile act she put on. This was real, terrifying, and it was happening to the one person I couldn’t bear to lose. I fumbled for my phone with my free hand, nearly dropping it twice before I managed to dial the head of security. “Get up here right now! All of you! What the hell were you idiots doing? I left my sister in law in this house and she’s bleeding out! She’s pregnant with my child and you let this happen?!” The guards rushed in seconds later, their faces going white when they saw the blood everywhere. One of them opened his mouth but I cut him off with a furious glare. “Don’t you dare make excuses! I trusted you to protect her and look at her now!” I shouted, my voice echoing off the walls. Cerene whimpered against my chest, her fingers digging into my shirt like she was afraid I’d disappear. “Call the hospital! Tell them we’re coming in hot with a pregnant patient in critical condition. If she loses this baby because you useless f***s couldn’t do your job, I’ll ruin every single one of you!” Cerene let out another sharp cry, curling tighter into me as fresh tears rolled down her cheeks. The tighter she held, the more I felt like something is wrong. Why did it feel so wrong to let her hold me? I was still married, I wasn't supposed to care about her this much. Before I could ask the guards to look for my wife... I brushed off the thought completely. “Peter… it’s getting worse… the cramps… I can feel it tearing inside. Our baby… he was supposed to be our fresh start. I can’t lose him like this. Not after everything.” Cerene dug her nails into my arm. I pressed my lips to her forehead, tasting the salt of her sweat and tears. My own hands were shaking so badly I could barely keep pressure on her wound. “Shh, don’t talk like that. You’re strong. You’ve always been so strong. We’re going to the hospital right now and they’re going to fix this. I’m not losing either of you tonight.” I stood up carefully, lifting her in my arms. She felt too light, too fragile, and the way she clung to me like I was her only lifeline made something twist painfully in my chest. I carried her out of the room and down the stairs, barking orders at the scrambling guards the whole way. “Move the car! Open the doors! Someone call ahead and make sure they have a team ready!” I shouted, my voice raw. Cerene’s blood was dripping onto the marble floor as we moved, leaving a trail behind us. She kept crying softly against my neck, her breath warm and ragged. “I tried to be brave for you… I really did… but it hurts so much. Promise me our baby will be okay, Peter. Promise me.” “I promise,” I whispered fiercely, sliding into the backseat with her still in my arms. The driver took off before I even had the door fully closed. “I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere. Just hold on for me, Cerene. Hold on.” As the car sped through the dark streets toward the hospital, I held her close, my heart hammering with fear I hadn’t felt since I was a kid. All thoughts of Caroline had vanished. Right now, the only thing that mattered was the woman bleeding in my arms and the child she carried. “Stay with me, baby,” I murmured against her hair, my voice thick with emotion. “Please… just stay with me.”
