We walk back to Uncle Abe"s car. I"m between my momma and my daddy, holding onto each of their hands. I swear this is the happiest day of my life. It"s better even than the day I first learned to fly. "I"m a driving," declares Uncle Billy. He unties the blocks of wood from the pedals and tosses them and the stack of phone books in the trunk. Uncle Abe grumbles about it but doesn"t put up much of a fuss. Billy and Granny take the front seat, Abe between them. I"m in the back between Momma and Daddy. All set, Billy starts the car, and we make our way back home. Halfway there, Granny turns around to say, "Deidra Ann, I swear you"re beaming so bright it almost hurts my eyes."
