“Boss what did you want to talk to us about?” Detective Joanna asked immediately they got in his office, it was around twelve noon and that meant that they still had like five hours before they got off from work to go home and she was already feeling tired and exhausted and just wanted a few house to rest in the office as she did not want to go to the field again, she had not heard from Michael since morning and he had promised to call her once he was home, he said he had a business to take care of and his car was still at the garage so he borrowed hers and if he was not going to return it by the end of the day, it only meant that she was going to drive back home with Becca

“Oh yes, have a seat both of you” he said and motioned them to sit; he was still typing on his computer as they both sat and waited for him to speak. “So there is this detective that has gone rogue, he was one of us here and I personally trained him, agent Ryan Booth , he worked here in San Francisco before h was later moved to San Diego where h has worked for close to two years then he was moved back to Las Vegas, and from there he has gone rogue I believe he ash been doing this for quite some time now but I need solid proof to pin him down, he can’t continue doing that, he is a threat to the police and might even expose the whole police unit, it is just a matter of time before he exposes us all and that is not right according to our ethics, you get me?” he asked as he observed their reactions and Becca was the first to talk, she knew what Lieutenant Adams would do to make sure that rogue agent was down and he would so anything possible no matter the cost, that was Adams for you and he won’t relax until he completes his mission and that only meant that the two of them were to go undercover again in less than two months, she could not imagine what would happen because the last undercover mission didn’t go as they planned, someone tipped their suspect and he got on his heels but they were nearly killed

“Wait, you are not suggesting that detective Joanna and I go undercover again? Not after what happened last time, we almost got killed and you said we won’t go for the next six months, it has only been two months or so, why do I feel like this mission is personal, what is it that you two have?” she asked whilst squinting her eyes at him and he sighed deeply

“Well, for the record, this is literally what you signed up for when you decided to become a cop, but this is also one way you and your colleague are going to be promoted to the other level and that is not my work to do but the chief himself and I am the one to write the report because I am your boss, so I am just giving you a chance to go out there and prove to the world that you can do it, I am not forcing you two to do anything, I just want you to go think about it then give me your response before the end of the week, you don’t have to say it right now, how is that?” he asked with a sly smile on his lips and Detective Joanna cleared her throat, she knew the boss was after her best friend, he was always doing favors foe Becca but would always send the two of them out on a mission so as to cover up his decisions

“It is good you chose us, but can I ask you a question sir?’ she asked and he nodded in agreement

“Of course you can ask anything, what is it that you want to ask me?” he asked

“Why? Why Detective Becca and I? I mean you could have chosen Detective Baker and Oscar they are a great team, but you chose the two of us why?” she asked and he chuckled. Lieutenant Adams was thirty-five year old, he had a wife, a lawyer to be precise and two beautiful daughters, he had been working at the San Francisco police department for close to eight years, he first started as police officer, later hot promoted and he was a detective for five years before he got promoted and was made the lieutenant after the other lieutenant was transferred into another police department in the United States of America , when Becca got transferred to that police department, he was there and he was drawn close to her than he had ever expected, she had started working in San Diego where she was studying together with her best friend Joanna and she told her dad that she wanted to work close to him so she could take care of him and also because she wanted to work home, it was not a problem to her father since he was a retired chief of police, Mr. McKenna made sure his daughter got what she wanted, he just ordered for hr transfer and hat is how the two got back home and started working at San Francisco police department, a year later Detective Baker and Oscar got transferred to San Francisco and that is how the four got to be a team, they would always go on missions together and worked together both on the fields and in the office. A year after they got transferred, Lieutenant Adams started showing his interest in Becca, she was irresistible and most of the men at the department would always eye her but got no chance, and that is why he always did her small favors just so he could get her attention but all he tried doing bore no fruits, Becca was wildly untamed

“Honestly, Detective Joanna that is low you thinking of me, I think you know me better than that, you two have been here for almost three years that is long enough to know how things run here, I chose you two because this is a female job and I can’t send Detective baker and Oscar out there, the two have been working in Las Vegas and Ryan probably knows them, unlike you two, you first worked in San Diego, despite that you two fit perfectly for the job, the other female detectives have no experience in the field of going under cover, if you don’t want to do it I will look for someone else but please give me your feedback before the week comes to an end because we have to get moving really fast” he said and Becca gave Joanna a side look

“Okay sir, we will think about it and give you feedback just as you have said, are we free to go now?” she asked and he nodded in agreement

“Of course” he said and got back to his computer, the two left his office in silent and went back to their desks but no sooner had they settled than detective Baker and Oscar started nagging them, they wanted t know why they were called in his office and what they had been told

“It is clear that you two won’t let us be in peace we are going out for lunch, mind to join us? You know like old times just the four of us?” Becca asked, she was feeling famished and since it was on lunch break, she figured out that the lunch treat on her three colleagues will do no harm, despite all the salary she got from working as a detective had nothing to be spent on, her brother paid all her bills and he always insisted because she was his little sister and nothing would change so he catered for all of her bills, the only thing she bought were her personal effects and clothes of course because the house she was staying in was bought and given to her by her father so she paid no rent, she was used to saving but on that particular day she felt like spending some on her colleagues

“I wasn’t planning on going for lunch today but if you going to pay for it then I’m in” Oscar said ad the group laughed

“Honestly speaking Oscar, you don’t have a family to take care of, no kids, no wife and no girlfriend either what is it that you do with your money, all the money you get paid it’s a whole lot of money you can be broke right now, w just got paid last week” Joanna said jokingly and he chuckled

“I don’t even know how I spend my money and you won’t believe if I tell you that I am broke right now, it happens, money can vanish by the way so don’t blame me” he said and they all laughed as they headed for the elevators

“Don’t worry, I woke up in a good mood today so bills on me today” Becca said and Baker hugged her. “Get off me you imbecile” she said and they all laughed

“My bad I just got over excited maybe that’s why but don’t blame me, so where are we headed?” he asked immediately the elevator dinged on the ground floor

“This is my treat for you guys, so I will let you choose the best restaurant, your choice” she said with a smile

“I think I am the only one that knows the exact locations of the best restaurants that offers the best food, so let’s hope in my car” Baker said and they all got in his convertible. Baker was one mysterious guy at the department, he was not yet married and neither did he have any girlfriends, no one knew about his family either but he was so rich, he would often change cars and he also lived in a mansion all by himself, left many wondering how he got all the cash to own such expensive model cars but like they say, you can never be sure of what you don’t know
