“What did we miss while we were away?” Detective Oscar asked as he stepped in the office followed by his partner Baker

“Nothing, we were just having our…you know normal gossip, nothing to worry about so how is your morning?” Detective Joanna asked trying to avoid the subject, the two detectives were always nosy when it came to matters that went down in the office

“Way much to avoid the topic huh, anyway I am fine I don’t know about Oscar, so what are we going to deal with today? I am already tired and it is just Tuesday I wonder when will Sunday reach so I will have the day to myself and enjoy, this work sucks for real” he said as he plopped himself on the chair and the rest of the group laughed

“That is what you signed up for mister so you have to start to getting used to it already and ooh just a reminder, the road is always bumpy and messy so it’s better if you buckle up and get ready for the ride, otherwise I don’t think we will be going to the field today maybe if we just work on the reports, finalize before the end of the day” Becca suggested but before the rest of the group could reply, their boss Lieutenant Adams interrupted

“Oh I am so sorry to interrupt your little chit chat but today you are not just going to sit your asses in the office but rather you will be going on the field, all of you, I chose this group because I know you are always fast and accurate, I don’t want to waste your precious time because you should be on the field already so I will just go straight to the point, there is a robbery case that has just reached my office a few minutes ago, an owner of a jewelry store, Mr. James Bond just called me to inform me that his store was broken into and he was robbed, goods worth 10,000USD, so I want you to go to his store and find out what happened, we must put an end these robbery cases going on in this town, here is the address, now off you go I want the culprits arrested before the day ends, any questions?” he asked and everyone shook their head. It was long since the team had solved a robbery case and to tell the truth they were excited about it, they took their work car from the parking lot and drove to the far end of the town

“It has been long since we looked into a robbery case, I guess boss just gave me my day off, I don’t like sitting on that damn desk working on reports, it makes me tired, but going to the field and finding culprits was always my dream, so today is officially my favorite day” Joanna said and they all turned to look at her, “What? Why are you all giving me that look? Like I am some alien from another planet? Come on, I know y’all happy about this, I could even notice the smile tugging on your lips the moment Adams mentioned about us going on the field today and when he said the whole group I saw the look on your face, you know w all know how you two like working with us since we are the best team so far and I won’t lie you always want to go with us on the field, so here is the chance sweethearts, you should be celebrating already, I’m I lying Becca?” she asked Becca who was busy on her phone, she had just decided to text Anthony and tell him how grateful she was for the previous night

“Yeah of course” she said without facing Joanna and she looked at her suspiciously

“Hey, do you even know what I asked you, you have been busy the moment we entered this car, whom are you texting? This is unlike you, you rarely text, oh or let me guess, you are talking to him? Oh God, how did I not realize this, I told you, you are slowly falling for Mr. charmer and he is charming you into your pants, take care” she said and Baker turned to look at the back and gulped down the saliva in his throat, he had been eyeing Becca for almost a year since he moved to work at the San Francisco but Becca never showed her interest in him and he wondered why, he had the cash to keep her, he had the looks and everything that could probably make him win her, but she wanted nothing of the sort, she just wanted to have the one night stand with random guys and not him and he kept wondering if he was the problem or she was the problem and when he heard about her texting with another guy, he got jealous, he feel and that he never stood a chance to have her, she always found a way to shut him off or to avoid talking about it, she always found a reason to push him away and he always felt bad about it

“Oh really, we are here talking and you are busy texting?” Baker asked and Becca scoffed

“Hey, hey watch your words mister, we all have our phones so we all can chat and text or call whoever you want, just focus on the road and stop being a bother back here, we are okay, thanks for asking” she said with finality and went back scrolling on her phone, that was not the reaction Joanna expected from her friend, she immediately regretted why she brought up the topic because suddenly there was tension in the room, she was not expecting it to turn like that so she had to figure out what to do because the moment Becca half shouted at Baker, he felt so belittled and he wondered what wrong he did asking the question he asked, he wished he had just kept quiet like his partner Oscar

“Hey guys, come on, it was supposed to come out funny but I guess I ruined it all, let it not be the reason we don’t talk to each other when we are on our way to the crime scene, so I suggest we stop thinking about it and focus on the matter ahead, can we do that? Hey friend, I was just being funny, I didn’t mean what I said earlier I am sorry” she said trying to apologize

“It is okay really, we should just stop talking it is making it worse even, we have about five minutes before we reach there” Oscar said trying to avoid the topic, he knew his partner liked Becca but it was clear Becca never liked him in that way, maybe just as a colleague and nothing beyond that but Baker was always determined to win her, he knew that it was just a matter of time but what he didn’t know was the fact that Becca never wanted to date or b in a relationship with any other man, leave alone dating a fellow colleague, not after what happened between her and Jimmy, her ex boyfriend and a fellow detective before she transferred to San Francisco with the help of her father, she always looked up to Baker like a colleague and nothing much

“Okay, Baker I am sorry for lashing at you I didn’t mean to, I don’t want us to go the fields looking at each other like we can tear each other apart and Joanna please stick to your phone, and I was not texting Anthony on what you are thinking, I was just thanking him for yesterday, it is rare I have night mares these days but I think yesterday as bound to happen and I am not falling for him either, you and I both know well that I don’t date so stop with the fantasies” she said and Baker turned to loom at her surprised, he didn’t know that Becca always had nightmares but the good thing was that she was not dating the Anthony guy and neither was she in love with him, the worst part of it all was that she actually never dated and he wondered if she would ever change her mind so he decided to ask her about the nightmares

“Wait, you have nightmares? What happened? you never talk about it why?” he asked out of curiosity and Becca sighed, it was not supposed to come out like that and she knew they were not going to stop asking unless she told them

“No, it is nothing you shod be concerned about Baker, I am good, just a stupid nightmare and here we are, I think we should get going, remember we have to find the culprits before the end of the day and you know how serious boss always is” she said as she unbuckled and was the first to get out of the car the moment Detective Oscar stopped the car at the other end of the store, everyone else got out of the car and they all walked towards the main entrance in silence, the door to the store was open and there were police officers at the scene

“I will do the interrogation guys” Joanna said the moment they stepped in the store and the rest agreed with her, she was always good at it and it is what she always did when they all went to the field while the rest checked the crime scene
