As panic threatens to overwhelm me, Quinn immediately has her arm around me in support. “It’s okay, Bree. We’ll figure it out. Somebody find Alfric!”
She calls out that last part to anyone within earshot, and within a minute, the wizard is brought over to us. He looks genuinely pleased to see me.
“So, Dalton was successful,” he guesses. “He made the deal. That’s a relief to all of us. The demon was out of control.”
“You knew he was going to sell himself?” Is that why he sent Dalton to me? Did he encourage him to do it?
“It was necessary,” Alfric replies. “It was the only way to make sure he didn’t come back.”
“You didn’t want Dalton to come back?” Quinn is as confused as I am.
