Jasper and Alaia were sitting outside on the porch as William slept in the next morning. It had been a long night of questions and debunking myths. And even Jasper had learned somethings he hadn’t known.
Looking at the crucifix around Alaia’s neck, Jasper asked, “So a witch that was in love with you gave you that?” Alaia blushed, “She cared for me. And when she saw my family were constricted to the night, she made us each one.”
Jasper c****d an eyebrow, “She?” Alaia looked away blushing even more, making Jasper tease “Oh wait hold up, I’ve asked about boyfriends but if there were girlfriends, I’d LOVE to know about them.”
Alaia knew Jasper was teasing but her face was still red. “It was only her. Her name was Juliette, and she was this gorgeous witch I met in Rome after my dad woke me up.”
Sliding a hand through her wild curls, Alaia remembered the confusing time for her.
“I was the last one to wake up. Almost fifty years had gone by and nothing was the same. I spent most of my first decade hiding from the word, protecting it from myself.” Alaia hummed as she nuzzled into Jasper’s neck, “When I met Juliette, I thought she was human. But when I tried to feed from her, she showed me pretty quickly she was not.”
Shrugging, Alaia mumbled, “We at first had a mutual dislike of each other. But we were teenagers, and soon we were besties and eating ice cream off the same spoon.” Giggling Alaia’s head went to the side as she admitted, “The other feelings…well they came from loneliness on my part. And she just wanted someone to love. Someone to fix.”
Grabbing the crucifix, Alaia complained, “She wanted me to be able to go out in the day with her. Of course, she had to grab the most stereotypical thing and bind it with my blood.” Jasper shook his head, “And other than letting you be awake in the day? Does it do anything else?”
Alaia nodded slowly, “It can sometimes act as a warning. Letting me know I’m getting out of control. Since the ruby absorbed my blood it knows when my blood starts to get hot and heats up too.”
Jasper stroked his hand over the necklace, “And what would happen if you took it off?” Alaia did so casually and then yawned as she instantly got drowsy. “Depending on how much sleep I’ve gotten? It can be like taking a drug. I’m instantly groggy and want to hide from the sun like the little monster I am.”
Kissing her lips as he put her necklace on for her, Alaia perked up slowly as he purred, “My beautiful, sexy, funny, amazing little monsta.” Giggling Alaia pushed him gently and whispered, “Come on, let’s go and make breakfast.”
After doing so, Alaia tolerated William looking at her like she was an alien, before they took off for the day.
A Sunday morning in the middle of town was relatively busy. They went to the music store and checked out some of the newer classics they’d gotten in. Alaia and Jasper separated so he could get them food and she went into this boho chic shop that sold crystals, candles, and other hippie/ spiritual things.
When she came out, she found Jasper frowning down as a young woman stood in front of him. Alaia started to them and then inhaled the strong stench of wolf wafting off the female.
Walking to them quickly, Alaia was right behind the girl when she whirled around. Beautiful brown eyes shot fire as she observed Alaia, Roxie’s mouth bunched to the side as her wild black hair fell around her shoulders.
“Well speak of the leech.” Alaia looked Roxie over, “I’m sorry I don’t believe I know you.” Walking so she was beside Jasper, he draped an arm over her shoulder as she asked, “Can I you help you with something?”
Roxie scowled in distaste at Alaia staking claim, “You shouldn’t be here.” Alaia snorted in disbelief, “I live here. You don’t. You are free to leave, no one asked you to come here.” Roxie was shaking as she snarled, “Jasper is my friend and you’re nothing but a-.”
Jasper stopped Roxie as he hissed, “Lower your voice and knock it off. You can’t do this here!” Roxie looked at the people trying to see what was happening and simmered down.
Jasper made a motion for her to follow them to his truck. Roxie did so, growling in the back of her throat as the beautiful killer hung on Jasper. She showed him the cool candle, necklace, and ring she’d bought, and he loved them. “Cool babe, it’ll look good on you.” He said playing with the amethyst necklace dangling on her neck.
Alaia grinned and then they got to his truck and turned to Roxie who looked at Alaia threateningly, “If you think for a second of turning him, you’ll have the entire Battle Creek Pack to deal with.”
Alaia stiffened at the harsh words and confusingly asked, “Who said anything about turning him?” Jasper didn’t say anything as Roxie looked at Alaia confused for a moment.
Taking a moment, Roxie tried to deduce whether or not Alaia was bullshitting her. But after a moment Roxie concluded she was and rudely laughed in her face.
“You don’t fool me vamp princess. Go sink your fangs into someone else.” Alaia’s entire demeaner changed as she looked down at Roxie with menace, “Last I checked, this relationship consists of two people. Me and Jasper, you are not me and Jasper can speak for himself.”
When both girls looked at him, Jasper winced, “I’m sorry Roxie. But I already told you, I’m not leaving Alaia. Ever.”
Roxie’s chin jerked up, “Well then you should know that if she turns you on our grounds and we find out, we have to kill her and her family.” Jasper stiffened, “Excuse you, are you threatening her?”
Alaia watched furious as Roxie looked at Jasper and soften a tad. “Jas this is OUR territory. Seattle and beyond, fair ground. But they knew that and settled here, and we won’t stand for procreation of more of them on our territory.”
Shaking now, Jasper barked, “This is bullshit and whatever I decide to do, no matter who with, has nothing to do with any of you.” Roxie met his eyes, hers bleeding a bright gold, “That’s where you’re wrong.”
Alaia growled and shoved the she-wolf out of her boyfriend’s face. Roxie snarled, her fangs baring and Alaia giggled bitchily, “Oh sweet girl you wouldn’t want to go there.” Roxie’s neck jerked painfully as she growled, “Oh trust me b***h. I would.”
Alaia had pulled out a dangerous looking knife when Jasper got in between them, “Enough.” He warned them both. Roxie stopped dead and Alaia relaxed as he grabbed her and helped her into the truck.
He went back to Roxie and watched her hiss, “You’d honestly prefer that undead corpse over -.” Jasper met her eyes seriously already knowing the answer to her question, “Yes.”
Roxie’s chin wobbled as an angry and bitter look took over her face. And it wasn’t appealing, “Well in that case, Alpha Stephan is going to love to hear about how you honestly think becoming one of those things is okay.”
Jasper’s face turned murderous as he hissed, “He’s not my father, the f**k is your alpha going to do to me?” Roxie smirked as she promised, “He won’t allow you to mate. He’ll chase her out of town or kill her, and she won’t have a choice but to comply.”
Disgusted by the merriment Roxie took in that, Jasper backed away, “If you think this is the way to win me over your mistaken Roxanne.” Looking her over Jasper admitted, “I never thought you’d be the type of friend to wish harm on someone just because they don’t feel the same. Nice to know now.”
And then Jasper got in his truck and Roxie watched him go hurting.
