Attempts At Being Torn Apart

Alaia was reading a book in her bedroom when there was a knock. Listening and inhaling lightly, Alaia sighed knowing now it was Renaldo and didn’t want to open the door. But she didn’t want to be rude and have him bitching to his parents who’d b***h to hers. So, she went to the door, opened it, and then closed it behind her as she pushed him back lightly. “Hi, can I help you?” Renaldo grinned as he stood looking delicious in a tux like he was about to walk the red carpet for the Grammys. But Alaia didn’t see the effort he put into his look from his cufflinks to his cologne. All she saw was a man trying too hard and finding it annoying. “I was thinking, I should take you out tonight.” Alaia started to decline but Renaldo didn’t let her speak as he talked over her, “It took a while to find a decent restaurant close by, but I think the four-hour drive will be worth it. You like sushi, right?” Exhaling as she rubbed her forehead feeling a migraine, Alaia deadpanned, “No I do not.” Renaldo’s bright smile flattered for a moment, but he nodded and held up his hand, “Well it’s fine. I’m sure you’ll find something on the menu you’ll like. How about you get dressed in something nice, I prefer you showed legs but your breast-.” Holding up her hand, Alaia stopped Renaldo in his tracks, “I’m not going out with you Renaldo.” Face darkening, Renaldo growled, “Why is it because of that mortal?” Alaia scowled, “Jasper. His name is Jasper. And yes, because I love him. And I respect him enough not to go out with another guy.” Having the nerve to get smart with her, Renaldo laughed mockingly, “While he’s off doing what?” c*****g an eyebrow, Alia snorted, “Visiting his mom?” Renaldo had the audacity to talk to Alaia like she was a child, “Oh that’s adorable,” laughing, Renaldo nastily predicted, “that pathetic waste of flesh is probably bending some native slut over right now.” Angry now, Alaia shook her head, “Wow Renaldo, and just when I thought you couldn’t get even more unattractive. You had to go and show that green is definitely not your color.” Pushing past him, Alaia tried to go down to find her mom when Renaldo grabbed her arm rough enough to bruise. “Don’t walk away from!” He growled. Alaia sent a slap to Renaldo’s face and pushed him hard sending him into the wall. It shook the house causing the lights to blink and as she rubbed her fading bruises from his fingers Alaia yelled, “Never put your f*****g hands on me again or I’ll break both of them.” Desmond appeared with Loren and both were immediately ready to fight seeing Alaia so upset. But of course, Renaldo’s father sensed his son was up to no good and came rushing to his defense like always. “And what’s going on here?” Wraith asked as he looked around. Renaldo straightened himself up, “Nothing dad. I was just asking Alaia if she’d like to go to dinner with me.” Wraith hummed as he looked over at her, “That sounds like a marvelous idea.” Alaia rubbed her arm from where Renaldo had touched her. It had healed now, but she could still feel where his hand had been. Like a slimy coating was left on her skin and she wanted to scrub it off. “Yeah and I said no thanks.” Alaia said not bothering to dress it up fancy as she scowled at Renaldo in disgust. Wraith straightened his spine as he looked down at Alaia with narrowed eyes, “Well I’m sure your little friend wouldn’t mind you having dinner with your eldest family friend.” Renaldo was smiling smug, and Desmond was about to protest as Loren was just about to throw hands. But Alaia didn’t need them to say how she felt. She had to say it out of her own mouth. So, stalking close to Wraith, Alaia hissed, “Mr. Harbinger, I hate to make it sound like I don’t respect you. But here’s my problem,” Wraith’s chin jerked up as the little woman growled, “Your son is nothing but a man slut wanting to put another notch in his belt. And that’s all honky dory for him, but he won’t do it using me.” Renaldo then got a face full of angry woman as Alaia snarled in his face as the rest of their families appeared, “This is the last time I will ever say this. So here me clear when I say: I WOULD RATHER WALK IN FRONT OF A MOVING TRUCK THAN EVER BE ANYTHING TO YOU. YOU ARE NOT ATTRACTIVE, AND AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN, YOU CAN KISS MY ASS.” And then Alaia stormed off down the hall leaving both her family and the Harbinger’s in an awkward silence.   Jasper was amused at the awkward glances his neck had gotten. How everyone had started asking him questions like he was a vampire. But he only told them the basics, he was in love with a vampire. He and her family were on awesome terms. No, they hadn’t killed people in town, and no he wasn’t a donor. After answering a few more, Jasper was able to run from the persistent Alpha Stephan who seemed determined to know it all. Sitting outside his mom’s house on the porch, Jasper was drinking a beer and watching the moon shine over the land. It was beautiful and scenic, and he wanted to be with Alaia right now. Seeing the wind gently blowing her hair back, the moon beaming down on her as she smiled at him. Her warm body curled into his. Maybe one day he’d bring her down, and they would get the chance. Sighing, Jasper was in another world when someone started walking to him. He was so out of focus he didn’t even notice until they were there. “Hey.” Looking to see Roxie in a long sleeve shirt and sweatpants, Jasper grinned up at her, “Hey. Couldn’t sleep?” Roxie blushed as she sat down. “Yeah something like that.” Jasper could tell Roxie was lying. But he didn’t know why she felt the need to.  What he didn’t realize was Roxie couldn’t openly admit to him that she had left her window open. And that even in her sleep, her wolf had picked up on his scent and known he was outside. So, she’d come to join him. Because her racing heart was telling her this was her chance. And she didn’t want to blow it. “So…Alaia is her name, huh?” Jasper grinned at just the thought of her, “Yeah.” Roxie slowly took Jasper’s beer and took a sip, “And she’s a vampire? Like an actual freaking vampire?” Looking over at Roxie Jasper pointed out, “Yeah, you sound shocked by it. Didn’t you grow up on this stuff?” Roxie rolled her eyes, “Yeah. But I never seen any of it, I mean the wolves? Yeah. But not anything else, it’s a mind f**k to believe that there’s vampires out there.” Jasper gave her a dry look, “Imagine my surprise who thought it was just humans. I’m waiting on aliens next.”  Roxie shook her head laughing and then asked, “So you don’t mind? That your girl’s…different?” Jasper thought before admitting truthfully, “No. And weirdly enough I’ve come to love her because she’s different. It’s like knowing she’s a vampire, I get to see a side of her, a part of her she doesn’t trust to everyone. I feel honored and even more close to her.” Licking her lips, Roxie awkwardly stumbled over her thoughts, “I don’t know, I thought you two were splits-ville when you were here last time. You were talking like it was stressing you out. All that fear and confusion melted just melted away?” Jasper glanced warily at Roxie who passed back his beer, “No, it was more like… I realized she was who I wanted and that even with a little something extra thrown on top of it, it hadn’t made me want her any less.”  Roxie blew a raspberry, “Wow. That’s powerful, but you know she’s a killer right? She’s killed people.” Jasper knew that, had seen it with his own eyes, but even that didn’t scare him. Nothing in her world scared him, not enough for him to leave her. “I know.” He told Roxie unfazed. Both sat in silence for a while, passing the beer back and forth until it was gone and then Roxie blurted it out, “You should leave her.” Jasper closed his eyes, “Not happening Roxie.” Roxie winced, “Jasper I know you might think you love her, but you don’t! She’s a killer and if she’s hungry enough, she’d kill you!” Jasper looked at Roxie darkly amused now, “Funny, for someone having never met a vampire you’re a suddenly an expert?” As both began a battle on right and wrong, Alaia was stuck in her own battle. “She insulted my son!” Josette yelled as they stood in the living room. Alaia poured herself a scotch as her father c****d a tolerating eyebrow, “And you think the price of that is marriage?” Loren accepted a swig of his sister’s drink as he lit a cigar. Neither said a word as Sophia told Josette flatly, “We don’t agree.” Josette’s creepy green eyes seemed to burn fire as her red hair seemed to be fire for a moment, “She’s obviously running out of options since she’s slumming it with that mortal! Your family legacy now depends on her! Especially since you let your son change his human!” Looking at her son sulking like a child as he scowled at Alaia, Josette winced, “Renaldo might be rough around the edges, but he is a man with title, status, and wealth. He could attribute to her, not take away from her.” Wraith agreed as Alaia ignored his gaze, “She needs someone who can fight for her, and protect her. That human can’t do that, no matter how confident he appears, the kid’s shitting himself and already about to run.” Gripping Alaia’s chin roughly, Josette barked “You see that don’t you?” Alaia met the crazed green eyes that were trying to force her to break, “You’ve seen him running from you, you’ve seen him pulling away? Is there someone else?” Alaia snatched from Josette as she snarled, “No! He’s loved me and protected me thrice over! And he’s never looked at another woman since we’ve been together. Unlike your husband, my boyfriend respects women and what they want.” Alaia stormed off like her boyfriend currently was. Walking down the beach angry, Jasper winced as Roxie yelled at his back, “Hey, we’re not done!” Jasper turned around kicking up sand as he stared at her irritated, “Yes the hell we are, I’m not entertaining this bull!” Roxie rushed to him too fast, and Jasper could only get a step back when she was right in front of him. “Dude she’s not even alive, she’s died and come back that’s not natural!” Laughing, Jasper rudely pointed out, “Coming from the girl who literally becomes a wolf!” Jerking back in offense that he’d compare the two, Roxie quickly debunked it, “That’s natural! It’s a part of me, my ancestors, my family, they’ve all been wolves. I couldn’t change that even if I wanted to. But your little girlfriend is nothing but an undead leech. She’s supposed to be dead right now.” Instantly hot in the blood, Jasper’s voice was deep as he warned, “NEVER call her that again.” Roxie’s eyes filled with tears as she thickly told Jasper, “Jas, she’ll kill you. She’ll suck the life out of you and leave you sleepwalking forever!” Jasper scoffed as he turned and started walking again, “That’s funny, because since meeting her, it finally feels like I’ve woken up.” Alaia was screaming in pain as Josette shook her roughly, Rayne was trying to pull her mom off as Eric held her mom back. “You i***t! My son is offering you everything and you deny him for that mortal!?  How would you like it if I cut the brakes off that bastard’s truck!” Hearing the threat to her mate’s safety, Alaia could then ignore Josette’s razor like nails digging into her arms. Alaia’s hazel eyes turned red and she suddenly had Josette in a grip around the throat.  Throwing her hard against the nearest wall, Josette’s eyes widened in horror as Alaia’s eerily cautioned her, “If you ever threaten my mate again, I will turn you into dust.” Dropping her to the ground, Alaia’s arms began to heal as Wraith stepped forward, “Your view is being corrupted. Your family legacy could be brought to a higher honor, pedigree, and yet you refuse for a mortal.” Shaking his head, Wraith told her severely, “You’ll regret this in the future.” Alaia looked at Wraith as she suddenly got on her tiptoes and whispered something in his ear. It was too fast and low what she said, spoken in a foreign language the other’s didn’t know. But Wraith did, and when Alaia finished whatever she said, he looked ready to murder. But Alaia wasn’t afraid she instead whispered, “Thank you for visiting as always Harbingers. Please don’t make it habit though.”  And then Alaia walked out numb as Wraith growled at Eric, “I tried to save your pathetic family for ruin! But if you wish to become nothing, you do so!” He told his family they were leaving, and after ten seconds of grabbing their things, they were out the door. Which Jasper at this point, wanted Roxie to do. “She’s not human!” Roxie wailed emotionally, “How can you love something not human.” Jasper threw up his hands, “The same way I love everybody else! With a full heart and open mind.” Roxie was crying as she stared at Jasper.  He hadn’t wanted to hurt her, but he wouldn’t let her get in his head. So, he told her straight up, “When I came down here after I found out, I thought I was going crazy. I was conflicted and lost, and it was a f****d-up period for me. But I dealt and I now know I could never live without Alaia, she means everything to me.” Roxie scoffed and Jasper whispered, “I know you like me Roxie.” Roxie snorted bitterly as she rubbed her nose, “A blind person could see I like you Jasper.” Jasper shook his head, “I’m not trying to hurt you Rox. But I’m not leaving Alaia, I’m never leaving her.” Roxie laughed as she told him in a no duh tone, “Yeah, because she’ll leave you.” Jasper denied it, but Roxie stalked forward dangerously, “She’s immortal. She’s not dying anytime soon, and she’s stuck in the age she was turned in. When you’re thirty she’s going to still look seventeen. And sure, you’ll both know the truth, so will her family, but is that really not going to make you feel like a pedo?” Shrugging Jasper muttered mostly to himself, “Doubt I’ll wait till thirty.” Roxie was confused with Jasper’s soft words but then it clicked in her brain. Stumbling back in disgust, Roxie snarled, “You’d become like her?” Jasper looked at her incredulous, “Isn’t your future mate going to have to do it to? Why is it so different for me to do it with her?” Roxie was shaking furiously as she growled, “It’s not the same thing!” Jasper shrugged, “Maybe in your eyes and I’m sorry if you find it appalling. But I’ve made up my mind, I know what and who I want.” As Jasper turned and faced the water, he heard Roxie rasp out, “I won’t let you do this.” Jasper didn’t even look as he heard the sick crunching, “You’re not the boss of me. And you can’t tell me I can’t, it’s my choice. And again, I’ve made it.”  Jasper didn’t understand the growled words through short pants of pain, but then a grey wolf was behind him. Jasper shook his head, and whispered, “I’m sorry Roxie. You’re an amazing girl, powerful and beautiful. But so is the girl I love, and I can’t imagine a second without her. So, I won’t force myself to find out about it.” Roxie stood in her wolf whining for a moment before tossing her head back in a loud howl and taking off. Jasper knew it was pointless to chase after her. But he also knew he didn’t want to be around when she came back tomorrow morning wanting round two. So, after leaving a note to his mom and everyone on the refrigerator, Jasper left out a lot earlier than originally intended. As he hit the road, he texted his girlfriend to let her know. Who called him to tell him of the shitty night she had. Jasper was pulling out of the reservation’s entrance when he saw a black wolf standing by Roxie. Both looked at him like he was the enemy, and maybe in their eyes, now, he was.
