Wraith slapped his wife hard enough into the ground the granite floors cracked. Josette bled from her check as her vision swam, Wraith growled at her menacingly and Josette righted herself fighting her fear. Holding her body still, Wraith yelled, “I told you to f*****g prep her. And what did she do? Run like a little girl and now she’s hiding with the enemy!”
Josette accepted that and nodded, “I failed. I’m sorry, I thought she was stronger. What do you want me to do?” Wraith scoffed in disgust at her buttering him up, “You couldn’t even do what I asked before, what makes you think you can do anything.” Josette bowed her head in humility, but it didn’t smooth her husband’s ruffled feathers.
Wraith shook his head disgusted, “I knew I should have left you at the w***e house you were born in. You’re nothing but a w***e, good for sucking me off and fucking.”
Josette said nothing and Wraith grabbed her face roughly. Josette stiffened in fear as his hard member pushed into her thigh. His painful grip on her face left bruising and Josette couldn’t look as he fed on her fear of him.
As he got off on making her feel weak and worthless.
Throwing her to the ground again like she was nothing but a cheap hooker, Wraith rolled his eyes, “We’re just going to have to go with plan b now.” And as he stalked off without another word, Josette sat shaking on the floor before willing herself to get it together.
And after pulling herself together, Josette cleaned herself up and it looked as if the last twenty minutes of her existence hadn’t happened. But as the cold marble began to c***k under pressure, even more was added.
Renaldo was losing his damn s**t. He had kept the last human alive from the pathetic family who owned the home they’d borrowed. But after finding out he’d have to wait even longer to have his Alaia he’d lost his temper.
The fifteen-year-old little girl still in training bra had met a bloody end at Renaldo’s mercy. When he came out of the basement drenched in her blood and smiling ear to ear, Wraith looked at his son not even remotely surprised. “Wow I hadn’t even realized you’d left one alive.” Renaldo smirked, “I told her if she sat down and be quiet until we left, I’d let her live.”
Wraith rolled his eyes already knowing that had been a lie and then watched his son agitatedly ask, “We find him yet?” Wraith shook his head, “Nope, not a peep in the last two hours.”
Renaldo rolled his eyes, “And how did we lose him again?” Wraith scoffed, “I had people canvasing the usual spots for Donny. I got a tip from a bartender he frequented and sent somewhere there to collect him. Put a couple drops of aconite in his drink.”
Watching his son get cleaned up, Wraith sighed annoyed, “It was confirmed he ingested it, but the collector I hired has disappeared. So, either Donny somehow walked away after an almost lethal dose of aconite, or someone else took him.”
Renaldo c****d an eyebrow, “Are you sure it couldn’t be possible? I mean how is wolfsbane supposed to work on a vampire?” Wraith smacked his son’s shoulder, “Just because it has wolf in the title doesn’t mean it’s just for them. But trust me there was no way he got up from that.”
Wraith walked downstairs as he informed his son, “That species of wolfsbane would have left him completely open, so that leaves the question on who has him.”
Renaldo shrugged as he wisely said, “Best case scenario? The Knights.” Wraith looked at his son in disbelief, “You consider that best? Our enemy having one of our pawns?” Renaldo looked at his father astounded he didn’t see the bigger picture, “Compared to the mortals who’d alert his father and the media attention? He’s the mayor’s son dad, if he’s seen we’ll have problems.”
Wraith agreed and strategized until he realized he was talking to himself now. He then looked at Renaldo dazed growling lowly. With his fangs extended and a hungry look swimming in his eyes, Renaldo looked every bit of a predator. “Son?”
Renaldo snapped out of his daze and gruffly said, “I’m going to go get some air.” And as he stormed out, Wraith watched him go knowing it was a lie. And did nothing to stop him.
Renaldo spent the night hunting down innocent people loitering the streets with no one around. As he left a trail of bodies in his wake, the hunger in him never subsided. He needed something else, and his blood crazed mind, all he could think of was Alaia.
His mate.
