Donny was hiding in the basement of the old factory plant. Groaning as he broke out in a light sweat, he looked at the dead girl not too far from him. She’d been running away from her abusive dad and alcoholic mom. She’d been a beautiful girl, long red hair and bright green eyes. A looker with fluffy pink lips, a light southern accent, and a willowy figure.
And now she was dead.
Because she’d trusted him when he said he was a runaway too. Had followed him when he promised he wasn’t a creep. And had stupidly fallen asleep in front of the hungry vampire with no impulse control.
Donny had only held back for five seconds before he was ripping into her throat. And as he thought he’d feel something staring at her, all he felt was pity for the dumb w***e who trusted a stranger.
Smirking, he heard her phone and picked it up. On three precent he watched the screen light up with different people’s names. And knew they’d all spend awhile looking for her, which meant he’d have to get rid of her body.
Throwing the phone across the room, Donny heard it break and sighed as he lifted the dead corpse over his shoulder. As Donny, irked with the idea of work, went to get rid of his meal, his last one ratted on him.
Paige looked awful, and she felt awful. But considering Jasper had seen her at complete junky mode, she figured, traumatized parasomnia was a step up. “You okay Paige?” Paige breathed out and whispered, “No. No I um…I know you were sick so you must haven’t heard about my accident yet.”
Jasper shook his head surprised, “No I hadn’t.” Paige’s fingers fluttered lightly over her neck and that’s when Jasper noticed the huge bandage on her neck. “I was attacked by some kind of animal a couple days ago and…I’ve just been…all over the place.”
Jasper looked at her with sympathy, “Some kind? You didn’t see what it was?” Paige shook her head as a tear went down her cheek, “No, I can’t remember. But ever since coming home from the hospital I keep having these dreams.”
Standing still outside in the courtyard, Jasper looked around to see them alone. “Dreams?” Paige’s leg bounced quickly as she admitted, “More like night terrors. I’ve woken up screaming my lungs out because they’ve felt so real.”
As the sun beamed down on them, Jasper asked Paige seriously, “What did you see?” Paige sniffled as she whispered, “Donny.” Jasper stiffened as he looked at her surprised.
“Paige, Donny’s dead.” He reminded her softly. Paige nodded as she whispered, “I know, and I know this sounds crazy, but I swear Jasper they feel so real.”
Paige looked at Jasper slightly terrified, “He’s the ONLY person who knew about me sitting outside my house in the back to wait for my mom. Not even her boyfriend Rick knew about it.”
Jasper swallowed hard his brain trying to make this make sense. But when he couldn’t he looked at Paige seriously, “Look I get a part of you might still fear him. And with all the tests and college stuff, it’s probably just stress.” Paige rubbed her neck and hesitantly whispered, “Maybe.”
Jasper looked at Paige’s neck unsure for a moment before he asked, “In the nightmare Paige, what happens?” Paige hesitated, but when she saw he wasn’t judging she faced Jasper before admitting, “I dreamed he was some kind of monster…a vampire.”
