Alaia felt like death. She was struggling to focus, struggling to think, struggling to just exist at this point. She hated whatever was happening to her because it was kicking her ass.
But as she started to get weaker, paler, and her body seemed to be giving up, Eric began to worry.
Loren however knew what it was, “Look dad, Stolvic said Jasper left town almost two weeks ago. That’s when this started!” Eric looked at his son angry, “We don’t know if that’s what’s causing this.”
Loren looked at his dad in disbelief, “And if it is, and we just sit here while she gets worse?” Eric breathed out, “She’s just…adjusting. She’s fine-.” Almost lunging for his dad, Haven stopped him.
Shaking his head as Eric’s chin went up in pride that he was right, Loren threw his hands up. “Yeah dad I know you want to hope your actions had no consequences. But here’s proof,” Waving to his sister, Loren barked, “they did!”
Eric’s tone was a warning as he growled, “What you saying to me boy?” Squaring his shoulder’s Loren met his father dead in the eye like a man, “I’m saying you deciding when and how Jasper found out before she was ready was wrong. And from the looks of it, you might have ruined her one chance at being genuinely happy.”
Roaring Eric growled, “He can’t protect her and it was that punk who’s failed her. He’s the one who let her down!” Losing it for a moment, Loren shoved his dad’s chest hard, “Says the guy who’s killing her!” Eric froze at his son’s words registered and mumbled, “What?”
Scoffing bitterly, Loren hissed livid, “Dad we both know what’s wrong with her.” Loren’s growl had Eric looking at Alaia.
Really looking at her, and as his daughter laid sweaty, pale, and barely able to move Eric desperately whispered, “I don’t know what you mean son, she’s just-.” Loren looked at his father with a “come on” face.
“Dad what we’re seeing is her body going through mating heat. And her mates not here, and she’s suffering like she’s going though withdrawal. Their connection is already deep, that means they must have already had s*x before. And now it’s like he’s rejecting her, and her body can’t handle it.”
Stopping dead as he stiffened, Eric denied that thought, “No. Not possible.” Haven looked down as she said, “She’s been having s*x with him, she told me herself.” Eric was ready to burn Jasper Wynter to the ground.
But Sophia slapped him to make him focus.
“Our daughter is getting worse by the second and your more concerned about her having s*x right now!? What is wrong with you!” Eric was stunned and couldn’t answer as suddenly Alaia sat up and began to cough until she was throwing up blood.
Haven held her hair back as Desmond grabbed a waste basket. Alaia’s face was covered in sweat from strain. She wasn't puking anymore. Just retching as her stomach had nothing left.
It was a painful agony for the family to watch as she cried holding on to her brother help. But as Alaia just heaved and heaved, Loren could do nothing to take her pain. He just held his baby sister’s hand until it was over.
Alaia was finally able to stop and laid back on the bed sweating and shivering all in the same breath. She looked up at her mom as Sophia stroked her hair, “Mom? Will you call Jasper for me? Please?” Sophia didn’t protest and immediately picked up her phone.
Eric reached for her and stopped her before she could dial the kid’s number. “Now wait a minute baby,” He warned his daughter laying on her side, staring off into space. “He’s still in shock and he’s been gone for almost two weeks now. I think calling him out of the blue might upset him.”
Sophia yanked from her husband, “My daughter is sick and getting sicker by the second because he’s not here. Because of you, Eric.” Eric winced as Sophia turned her back to him, “If you have nothing helpful to contribute, please go away.”
And so Eric had to watch his wife call Jasper and when he heard the confused familiar pitch, he winced as Alaia immediately became more aware. “Jasper I’m sorry to burden you with this, but would you mind talking to Alaia?” Sophia asked unsure if he’d agree.
Jasper got up from the kitchen table in the middle of dinner and held up his finger to his mom singling he needed a minute.
Rushing outside, Jasper hurriedly asked, “Is she okay?” As he started down a path, Sophia looked down at her daughter fearful. “No…she just needs to hear your voice. Maybe that’ll make her feel better.”
Jasper started to ask Sophia what exactly was wrong with Alaia. But she was being cautious with what she said. She didn’t know if he was recording her, so she handed the phone to her daughter.
Alaia softly breathed as she held the cold phone to her face. Jasper closed his eyes and whispered, “Alaia? Are you okay?” Alaia let the sound of Jasper’s voice vibrate through her and whispered back, “Yeah I’m okay. I’m just…I’m just under the weather. I become a big baby and whine, so now everyone is worried. I’m fine.”
Jasper hadn’t heard Alaia’s voice in almost two weeks. Ultimately causing the moment her soft velvety voice touched his ears, Jasper felt it. A rush, or a zing course through his entire body with pleasure.
It was warm and a little uncomfortable, like when a foot fell asleep and had to be wiggled again. His blood pumped with excitement as he whispered, “I’ve missed you.” Alaia was surprised to hear the genuine confession and as she curled up into a ball.
Seeing the conversation was going to be a pleasant one, Sophia ushered everyone out as Alaia murmured, “You did? I thought you hated me for-.”
Hearing how upset she was already getting, Jasper shushed her gently, “For starters I can never hate you.” Alaia’s heart skipped a beat with hope as Jasper admitted, “I was shocked and confused and a little hurt. But I never hated you baby.”
Alaia sniffled as hope began to feel her again in hope, “Yeah?” Jasper grinned as he whispered, “I love you Alaia, I’m not taking it back.”
Alaia wanted to ask him then if it was despite what she was. Or if it included what she was. But didn’t think rocking the little canoe they were in was a smart idea.
So, she asked a safer question, “How’s your Christmas break going so far?”
