Amelia was sure she and Daniel could stay in bed for hours more. But when she got up and checked her phone, she found almost two hundred missed calls from Gretchen. And one from the school and a voicemail.
Listening to it, she celebrated that she had been cleared of all suspicion and could return to work. But after the good news, she got nothing but bad.
Gretchen had sounded freaked out and breathless over the phone. As she kept telling Amelia to either get away from Daniel or call her back, Amelia checked her texts. It was all serious, all caps shouting at her to answer the phone.
