Chapter 4: Half of Next Month's Allowance Reduced (Seraphina's POV) I jolted awake with a gasp. The fire was gone. Above me stretched a white ceiling adorned with a crystal chandelier. A hand waved in front of my face. "Sera, what are you staring at so early in the morning?" I turned to see Talia yawning beside me, her hair tousled from sleep. Slowly, I sat up, the dream's images still vivid in my mind. My heart was still racing. The smell of smoke seemed to linger in my nose. "Did you have a nightmare?" Talia asked, now fully awake and concerned. "Hmm," I managed, trying to steady my breathing. "What did you dream about? You kept muttering 'run, run,' and woke me up. You were thrashing around too." I paused, the fiery vision resurfacing with painful clarity. The heat. The betrayal. Damien's cold eyes as he watched me burn. "Tell me, what did you dream?" Talia urged, sitting up beside me. I took a deep breath. "I dreamed that Damien killed me." For others, it was just a dream. But for me, it was a painful reality and a bloody lesson. The memory of flames consuming my flesh was too real. "Damn it! I knew he was no good!" Talia exploded, jumping out of bed. "How dare he try to harm you even in a dream! Just you wait! I'll make him pay!" I smiled despite everything, climbing out of bed. "It's just a dream, Talia." "Like hell it is! Dreams mean something!" She stomped around the room. "Forget about him, get up quickly. My brother seems to have come back last night." My eyes widened in shock. My heart skipped a beat. This was the first time I saw him after my rebirth. I unconsciously started to get nervous, but then, remembering the figure who rushed in and embraced me at the end of that nightmare, my heart began to pound faster. Kaelan Blackwood is the only person in this world who can control Talia Blackwood. It is often said that an elder brother is like a father, and these words are vividly demonstrated in the Blackmoon Pack siblings. Eight years ago, a car accident took away Kaelan and Talia's parents. The crash was brutal. Both parents died instantly. Blackmoon Pack temporarily fell into chaos, becoming a target for the Blackwood Branch Family Members to seize control. Under such circumstances, Kaelan, at only twenty years old, overcame all difficulties and took over as Alpha King of Blackmoon Pack. He was ruthless. He was smart. He suppressed those restless branch members with swift and decisive actions. At first, no one thought highly of him. Some even boldly claimed that Blackmoon Pack would collapse within three years. They called him too young. Too weak. However, eight years later, the Pack not only did not collapse but flourished. It became a legend praised by many, with countless young she-wolves vying for his attention. He proved them all wrong. As Alpha King‘s only sister, Talia had always been unopposed in the Northern Territory. No one dared to provoke her. If anyone displeased her, they would face misfortune. Yet, two people in this world could control her: me, her best friend, whose words Talia naturally heeded, and Kaelan, her elder brother by six years. With just a glance from Kaelan, Talia would instantly transform into an obedient and well-behaved sister. It was like magic. Around eleven o'clock, we descended the stairs, both neatly dressed. I had chosen a simple blue dress. Talia wore her usual black outfit. Seeing the quiet, empty living room downstairs, Talia yawned and chuckled. "At this hour, my workaholic brother should have already gone to headquarters. He's always working. Never takes a break." Before she could finish, I tugged at her sleeve, signaling her to look towards the living room. My pulse quickened. Talia, puzzled, looked over. Then she instantly performed a quick change of expression, her face going pale. She muttered "Brother..." in a tiny voice. There, sitting on the sofa, flipping through his Pack Leadership Financial Journal, was none other than Kaelan. He looked powerful even while reading. His dark hair was perfectly styled. His suit was immaculate. Talia forced a smile, her voice shaking slightly. "Why haven't you gone to the company?" Kaelan put down his magazine and stood up. His movements were fluid. Graceful. "I just returned from my business trip late last night. Even an Alpha needs some rest." His gaze then swept past Talia to me behind her. I felt exposed under his stare. As our eyes met, my cheeks flushed slightly. Heat spread through my body. After a moment, I softly greeted him, "Alpha King Kaelan, good morning." My voice came out breathier than I intended. Kaelan nodded slightly, his gaze sweeping over my face. His eyes lingered on my lips. He turned and walked towards the dining room, announcing, "We can eat now." As Blackwood Manor's Exquisite Venison Feast was brought to the table by Mrs. Harper, Talia quickly pulled me to sit opposite Kaelan. The food smelled amazing. My stomach growled softly. During the meal, Kaelan abruptly asked, "Where did you go drinking last night?" His tone was casual but sharp. Talia, who was drinking soup, nearly choked, coughing violently. Soup splattered on the table. Kaelan's sharp glare made her quickly change her words, trying to explain herself. "I wasn't really drinking that much! Just a little!" Kaelan remained silent, watching her. His expression suggested he saw through her feeble attempts. His dark eyes were cold. I buried my head, eating slower, trying to minimize my presence. The tension was thick. Talia then recounted, her words rushing together, "I attended Sera's engagement ceremony, representing the Blackmoon Pack." She grew indignant, her voice rising. "Damien Volkov, Sera's former fiancé, fled the scene! Can you believe it?" "He's nothing! Sera looking his way was his blessing, yet he was so ungrateful as to run away from the engagement! The coward!" As Talia grew more agitated, on the verge of spewing expletives, I discreetly tugged at her sleeve from under the table. She was getting too loud. Too angry. Talia's loud voice abruptly ceased. She cleared her throat, lowering her tone. "Sorry." "The engagement was canceled, but it was a good thing for Sera. She recognized a scumbag, which was certainly worth celebrating." Kaelan's eyebrows raised slightly. "Is that why you got so drunk last night?" His voice was deadly quiet. Talia admitted her fault, shrinking into her chair. "I wasn't that drunk. I was wrong. Please don't be mad." Kaelan, ignoring her pleas, calmly announced, "Half of next month's allowance will be reduced." Talia cried out in despair. "No! Brother, please! I need that money!" I felt sympathetic and interjected, "Alpha King Kaelan, the celebration was my idea. Don't punish Talia." Talia was on the verge of tears, deeply touched. She grabbed my hand gratefully. Kaelan then turned to me, his gaze intense. "Then why weren't you drunk?" I was speechless, giving Talia a look of helplessness. Kaelan, however, subtly smiled. Just a tiny curve of his lips. As the meal was nearing its end, my phone on the table suddenly rang. The sound was jarring. I picked it up and saw it was my mother, Marianne Thorne. I immediately guessed the reason for the call and calmly answered, "Mom?" My mother Marianne's voice carried a hint of hesitation through the phone. "Seraphina, Magnus's family has arrived at our house." She paused. "Damien is here too."
