I mused over the possibilities as we drove through the night. "I feel like the second possibility is more likely. No matter what, he's Talia's boyfriend, and Talia has no grudge against him, nor has she done anything to wrong him. He wouldn't do something so self-destructive, would he?"
Kaelan's expression darkened. "There's a third possibility you haven't considered."
"What's that?"
"Caden could be acting under someone else's orders. Perhaps an enemy of Talia's."
His words sent a chill through me. Kaelan's own experiences with betrayal by his treacherous uncles had taught him to suspect the worst in people.
"You think the Blackwood family's collateral branches might be involved?" The thought left me deeply unsettled
