After leaving the Silverwood Alpha House, Kaelan and I drove home together in his armored vehicle. The familiar hum of the engine filled the silence between us, but my mind kept drifting.
I stared out the window at the snow-covered streets of The Capital, but I wasn't really seeing them. My mother's words echoed in my head, mixing with Martha's gossip about Damien and Elara's crumbling bond.
