KRISTEN ZOEY “You don’t want to come to see me, what is keeping you in New York that you can’t come to see your mother, look at you.” My mom said when I walked to the house; it was not like I had that much to do on that day anyway. “Mom I was here about two months ago, not so long for you to even complain, but I am here now.” “Two months is suddenly not long for you? I don’t know if I am hearing you right but I missed you, your sibling did too and here you are glowing, what is New York feeding you that you don’t always want to come home to your mother and your family I talked to your father and he is on his way here, we all missed you.” She added and I just smiled, that is how typical and dramatic my mother was. “Mom I am here now, I missed you too and that is why I am here, it is just that work is too much that I don’t even have time to come see you guys, but I am glad I got to come home and see you,” I said as I settled on the couch and soon my siblings walked in, they were all happy to see me; I was surely enjoying time with my family, enough distraction to get my mind off, Reece. “How is work taking you so far?” My father asked later that evening after we had our dinner. We were watching the family's favourite TV show. “It is all good dad, I am coping up and doing quite well and I am saving to buy my dream car, I am sure I am getting there.” “That is good but isn’t it too expensive to use a cab to and from work, you should take my car with you, I already have ways of getting myself a new car and that shouldn’t be a problem for you.” He suggested but I wasn’t in for the idea yet. “Dad I don’t think that is a good idea, I am going to buy my car soon.” “Yeah I know that but I am just giving you an option that could help until you get your car and don’t say no please I am just trying to help you like a father should, you don’t have to show so much pride about it, you can always return it to me after you get your ‘dream car’.” He said and I couldn’t help but laugh at his statement. “Thank you, Dad, I know you are just trying to look out for me and I appreciate that, thank you, Dad, I will take it but I hope I am not interfering with any of your schedules.” “Oh no, that is not what is happening, I am good I already took care of it, now tell me how are you holding up?” “I am good dad, the work is good too and I can’t complain.” I said and after talking for a few more minutes, my phone vibrated, it was a call from a new number, I guessed it was from Reece because I still had not saved his number, “Dad excuse me, I got to pick this call.” I said and he nodded in agreement. “Hello, who is this please?” I asked obliviously and he chuckled on the other end. “So you still haven’t saved my number yet?” “Yeah sort of, I got so busy that I even forgot to save it but I know your voice, so what’s up?” “Nothing much I just wanted to apologize for leaving so early, I didn’t intend to though.” “No it is okay, I understand you are a busy man.” “That is no excuse; I shouldn’t have left like that.” “That doesn’t mean anything because I also left without saying anything, but we are good now, what is going on?” “Nothing, I just thought I should check on you and maybe see if you have time we could grab a drink or something and maybe get to know each other, just you and I.” He said and as much as I wanted that, I didn’t want to sound cheap to him or act as if I was so desperate for him. “That is a good idea actually but it just doesn’t sink right, you and I get to know each other, the famous Reece Walker? No, I don’t think I can do that.” “Why not, what is stopping you?” “Many reasons, I still don’t think it is right though.” “You are just being paranoid, I am a normal human being just like you, and I am not that different.” “Yeah and that is the problem, I am just a random girl you had s*x with, nothing more about that.” “And that is where you are wrong again; I don’t go looking for the girls I have slept with, you were different, I mean you are different from the other girls.” He added and I chuckled, in as much as I had feelings for him, I just didn’t think I was going to fall for his lies. “How different I’m I from the other girls?” “I know you are but I can tell you more when you come here and let us talk about it over some drinks, despite I have been watching you ever since senior year, I know you have been having a crush on me ever senior year.” “Oh yeah? Every girl had a crush on you in senior year, that is no exception for me, and is that a reason enough for you to ask me out for drinks?” “One of the reasons actually, I just want to be with you and spend some time with you, probably get to know you, that is for starters.” “Okay in as much as your idea is cool and all that but it is too late to go for drinks with you.” “Okay but were it not for time you would have agreed to come?” “Maybe yes maybe not that all depends.” “On what exactly?” “On my mood.” “Okay, maybe you are not okay with going out, I could send my driver to come to get you, I have a whole bar filled in my house.” “Unfortunately I am not around for that, maybe next time when I get time,” I said dismissively but wishing I wasn’t far away, I wanted to spend more time with him and maybe getting to know each other was the best idea after all. “Where are you, I could still send my driver to pick you up.” “No I am not in town; I am actually at my parent’s house in Seattle.” “Oh and when are you coming back?” “Probably tomorrow, I have work on Monday.” “Okay should I wait for you, I mean should I be patient you will create some time for me, for us?” “I can’t promise you any of that yet but I will tell you when I am free.” “Okay then, say hi to your parents for me and I hope you consider my request.” “No promises, I will tell you when I am free then maybe we can arrange for that.” “Okay have a good night.” “Goodnight to you too,” I said and hung up then sighed deeply, I wasn’t expecting him to call but he did anyways. “I was looking for you.” My mom said from the doorway. “And you found me, what’s up Mom?” “I was wondering if you still want to watch this movie with me, I mean everyone has gone to sleep and your father is busy in his office, you know just girl’s time and night to catch up?” She asked and I nodded in agreement. “Okay sure, it is not like I had something important to do, we can catch up and maybe you talk to me about your recipes and what you have been up to.” “That sounds like a good idea, come on I already chose a movie for us.” “Urgh I don’t always like your movie tastes but I will go with it still,” I said and she smiled. We walked back to the living room and true to her words there was no one in the living room, she chose the movie for us to watch. A few minutes into watching the movie, my phone chimed it was a text from Reece; he was starting to make me doubt his moves though. “Who is that, I thought you and I were going to have some time together but you are just busy on your phone.” “I am sorry Mom, he is just a friend from work, let me put my phone away so I don’t make you sad.” “It is okay, I am happy someone out there is making you happy, I can’t fail to see a smile on your face.” “No it is nothing like that mom, let us just concentrate on the movie and we will talk about that later,” I said not wanting to go so much into detail, nor wanting to discuss my love life with my mother.
