CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER 3 I didn't stop until I reached our street. As I dashed toward the house, I spotted the biker from next door standing in the front of his house with a few friends. So I stopped running and I was only walking faster now. "Lainey. Are you alright?” Tristan asked. “What?” I asked confused, looking towards him. “You look a little worried about something.” He said. “You don’t even know me. How would you know if I’m worried?” I asked. “Good point.” He said. So I went into my house and Bella was asleep again because it was really early in the morning. But I knew that she would be up again soon so I went to the kitchen where I grabbed a bottle of tequila out of the freezer and I poured some into a shot glass and I swallowed it down whole. I then made a coffee and I sat at the table trying to think of the best course of action right now. Should we take off or should we see what happens with this Alpha. We can’t wait for too long because trouble could find us in a heartbeat and then it might be too late to take off. I don’t know if we can risk it. But I also know how hard it is to establish ourselves and it would take a lot to move. I didn’t really want to. And I didn’t need Bella freaking out anymore than she already does. I decided that right now I wouldn’t tell Bella about the Alpha. I was going to keep an eye on the situation and make sure no one is following me or hanging around suspiciously. My main priority was keeping Bella safe. I knew that I could take care of myself. But Bella needs someone to protect her. It wasn’t long before she started screaming so I went into her room and I sat on her bed, grabbing her flailing arms and calmed her down. Assuring her that we escaped the wolves. No one is coming for us. She always woke up with such a terrified look in her eye. Like she was reliving it. She was reliving every second of our escape and that the warriors were still chasing us. After I managed to settle her down, I went to have a shower and I climbed into bed as well. I lay there for a little while, thinking about the situation that we were in, but I decided that I was going to try and forget it and I rolled onto my side and eventually dozed off. I didn’t wake up until late morning and as soon as I walked into the kitchen Bella handed me a coffee. “How was work yesterday?” She asked. “It was good. But we know that they are just temporary. I only get called in when someone else is out.” I said. “Are you working today?” She asked. “Yeah. At the strip club.” I said. But she shook her head. “I don’t really like you working there.” She said. “I’m the bartender. Not a stripper. You don’t need to worry about me. I can handle those drunk assholes.” I said. “Did you steal much?” She asked. “Yeah. I got a couple hundred from a few saps.” I said. “That’s good. Maybe I should start looking for a more steady job rather than you working at all these places on a call-in basis.” Bella said. “Bella. You can barely leave the house without having a panic attack. Don’t worry about it. I’ve got it handled.” i said. “I don’t like that you’re handling everything.” She said. “I said that it’s fine. Nothing I can’t handle.” I said, taking my coffee to the backstairs. I lit a cigarette while I was leaning against the railing again and Bella came outside with me. She didn’t smoke but she usually came out to talk to me because she felt like I was working too hard and she wanted to make sure that I knew how much she appreciated it. “What the hell?” She asked, looking at the house next door. So I turned around to look at the biker’s house. “Yeah. He was moving in last night.” I said. “Did you talk to him?” She asked. “He tried to talk to me. He was asking questions. I didn’t say much. Just stay inside when I’m not here.” I said. “He has a Harley.” She said. “He was also wearing gang colors. Do you remember where the gun is?” I asked. “Yeah. And I remember how to use it.” She said. “Good. If anyone breaks in, don’t hesitate. Because they won’t.” I said. So she nodded her head. I had dinner at home that night and then I left to head towards the city. I got to the strip club and I went out the back to the dressing room. I got dressed into a bedazzled bra with a very short and tight tank top over it and a very short ruffled skirt that barely passed my ass. I then applied the makeup that I was required to wear, but hated wearing it, and I walked into the main area of the club. I walked behind the bar and there was another girl behind there, but she was too interested in her phone and I started taking orders from guys that were sitting at the bar. One guy came over to place a large order of drinks and told me what table they were at. So I started getting the drinks together and I put them on a tray. As I saw the man go and sit at the table right next to the stage, I noticed a face that I had seen before. It was the Alpha from the night before. “Fuck.” I muttered to myself. I looked over at the other waitress, but she wasn’t paying any attention. She was flirting with a couple of guys, which is what she’s meant to do, and I was the only other waitress who was there. I didn’t have a choice. I finished their drinks and I took them to the table, and I started handing them out. The Alpha sat up and stared at me the second he realized who I was. “So, we meet again.” The Alpha said. But I just smiled at him. “What’s wrong? The cat got your tongue?” He asked. “I’m sorry, sir. I’m just really busy.” I said. “Well, I’m sure you’re not too busy to get up and have a dance for us.” He said. “I’m a bartender. Not a dancer.” I said. “I’m a paying customer and I want you to dance.” He demanded. Suddenly the manager was standing beside me at the table. “Of course, sir. Rose would be only too happy to dance for you.” He said. “I don’t dance. You know that.” I whispered to the manager. So he pulled me away from the table. “They have been throwing down hundred dollar bills all night. If they want you to dance then you’re going to dance.” He demanded. But I sighed and rolled my eyes while looking back over at the Alpha. What the hell was he playing at? Does he know what I am or is he just trying to get me back for last night because I took off and wouldn’t talk to him? The Alpha was looking at me and he showed me a large pile of bills rolled up. “It’s all yours once you dance.” He announced. And the manager looked at me with wide eyes. “Fine. But you’re not getting any of that money.” I said to the manager. I made my way up on to the stage where the spot lights were pointing and I looked around the room. There were a couple other dancers that were up the other end of the stage, but I had to take a deep breath. I looked at the Alpha again and he was sitting there with a weird grin on his face, like he had won something. So I dug down to gather up every bit of courage I had, thinking about everything else I had done in order for Bella and I to survive. This wasn’t actually the worst. As the music was playing I started walking seductively towards the pole, my massive high heels making me taller than my usual 6-feet tall but I wrapped my leg around the pole and lifted my body off as I turned myself upside down as everyone was watching. I put my legs back down on the ground and I started slowly lifted off my top to show the bedazzled bra underneath, but with a sly grin, I threw it at the Alpha’s beta who was sitting right next to him. I crawled towards them and I stood on their table, giving that table all the attention before I went back to the stage and I finished dancing when the song finished. Little did I know, I had the attention of everyone in the club. All the men that were there, they were all watching me and it wasn’t just the Alpha that was throwing money at me. I couldn’t believe it. But the Alpha was laughing and cheering as he got up on stage next to me and he grabbed the waistband of my skirt and he pulled me closer to him. He tucked that pile of cash into my waistband and he leaned down right next to my ear. “I never knew a werewolf could dance like that. You’re just full of surprises.” He said. But I looked at him with a straight face as soon as he said that. My eyes started to change color slightly, but nothing that could be seen in the club because the lights were too dim. “I don’t know what you’re talking about, you've been reading too many fantasy stories.” The Alpha would have noticed the color change though. But he winked at me before he got off the stage and rejoined his friends.
