I have no idea how long I have been standing here, staring into nothing long after Scarlett left, the silence they leave behind stretching into something heavy and very much suffocating. Because now, more than ever, there is a truth sitting deep in my chest that I cannot ignore, no matter how much I might want to.
If Saul ever lays a hand on her, I would not hesitate. Not even for a second. The thought is not dramatic or impulsive, not some fleeting burst of anger that will fade with time. It is steady. Terrifyingly clear in a way that leaves no room for doubt. If he hurts her, I would not care about consequences, about reputation, about the life I have built or the one I am supposed to protect.
