CHAPTER 34: TEMPORARY AMNESIA ‘Am I dead?’ That was the first thing that registered on her head, when she regain her consciousness. Her half lidded eyes open only to meet the white ceiling. Her nostrils are instantly filled with the smell of medicine and disinfectant. On the room, there is this sound of beating coming from a machine that she couldn’t tell. Her sight is blurry—temporarily blinded by the light, Italia blinks. “Where am I?” At the end of her sentence, there is this soft groan that came afterwards. She felt like her head was throbbing painfully. As if it has been hit by something hard that cause for her to faint or did she actually fainted? With that thought in mind, a sudden memory flashed before her eyes. A scream followed suit by wheels of a car and the sight of blood, and then...nothing. A sudden ringing as she tried her hardest to remember stops her for a moment. “Shit.” The pain on her head was much painful that she imagined. She was at that state, when the door of the room was pushed open. There are couple of footsteps, before a baritone voice speak. “I—Italia?” The man sounded surprise, but there is this restlessness and relief that flooded his tone upon seeing her. Frowning, she lifted her head, but before she could. Catch a glimpse of his face, Italia was engulfed into a tight embrace. Two pairs of strong arms circled around her waist to pulled her closer. But she squinted her nose in disgust. “You reek.” She pushed herself away, and freed himself from his hug. The moment she looked up to see who may be this man, Italia was stunned at the sight. The stranger was handsome. He have this alluring eyes she had never seen before. Rich emerald that reminds her of a forest that basked under the sunlight after an unending rainfall. His hair is messy on top, and regardless of the black bags under his eyes, he still looks captivating. More like the men she would often see in magazine and read in books. But the real question is, who is he? And what is he doing in her room? “W—who are you?” Finally, she asked after regaining her composure from being surprised. The man frowns. Confounded eyes meet her own. “What do you mean?” The male tried to cupped her face, but Italia move away. An uncertain look flashed before her eyes. “It just that...” She trailed off and hesitated. “You just came out of the blue and began hugging me, touching me, and that really makes me uncomfortable. I know you’re kind of handsome, but that doesn’t give you any privilege, you know....” Oddly, the man seems taken aback, and was lost for words. He was staring at Italia in a strange manner. “Did I say something wrong?” She forced an awkward smile on her lips. But she earned no response. “No, this can’t be...” The man gulps, and without saying anything, he turned his back in a rush and leave. Italia was left there dumbfounded. “So, what just happened?” Italia frowns, watching his silhouette that just suddenly disappeared. When the man came back again, he isn’t alone, but accompanied by a doctor and nurse, who checked Italia for a moment. “I believe it was an unfortunate news for you, Mr. Salvador.” Dr. De Solva faced Gustav. He shook is head, and there is this hesitation that flashed before his eyes. “Go on.” Gustav hardened his features. “What may have been the problem with her?” “I believe that Ms. Mercedes have a temporary amnesia—” “For how long?” His stomach dropped upon hearing the reason why Italia acted strange earlier. “I couldn’t tell, it still depends on how her body and her brain reacted, but you just be patient with her, because I am telling you right now that it wouldn’t be easy.” The doctor faced him. “She might not remember you, or she might, we can tell, but only time could speak for how long it can be.” “I see.” Italia frowns, the two looks sad. The crestfallen look and the distraught from the man’s eyes told her that it is something bad, but why is he concern to her anyway? He have nothing against to her. And for a fact, she didn’t even know who was the man, but Salvador—why does it felt both strange and familiar? It was as if she heard that name before, but she just couldn’t tell where and when. It was like her mind wouldn’t let her recall everything. But the real question is— “How the heck did I have gotten an amnesia?” She blurted out aloud before she could stop himself. But what she said was enough to grab their attention. Her eyes meet Gustav’s own orbs. When it does, Italia felt like every words that she wanted to say just disappeared at the back of her head. Her heartbeat picked up its pace, and it just....she was just left there tongue tied as if her body knows who he is, although her mind have completely forgotten who that Salvador was in her life. Salvador. Italia thought. “You’ve been hit and run.” He briefly explained, but never tore his eyes off from her face. For no apparent reason, the intensity of his stare....somehow filled her stomach with butterflies that made Italia more confounded before. Who is Gustav? Who is he in her life to make her feel weak against his presence? Breathless and submissive, speechless and just... Safe. Unbeknownst to Italia, she opened her mouth and speak, “Who are you?” And what rights do you have to make me feel this way? Silently, she uttered inside her head. Gustav gave her a sad smile, and there is this hint of longing that he let her see. “Who am I?” He chuckled. “You know the answer Italia.” She scoffs. “I am not playing with you—” “So am I, but would you believe if I say that I am your husband?” With that said, her eyes widened as the words echoed over and over again. A husband. Gustav just f*****g admit that he is her freaking husband!
