CHAPTER 33: SHE'S ALIVE, ANNA Jake lied. That is what she keep thinking. He never help her, but he laughs at her with so much mockery as she lay there on that table. It was made of wood, it was cold and damp by saltwater that makes her skin itched and recoiled. She wanted to scratch them with her nails, the thought to scratch them until they bleeds drove her sanity at the edge, because she couldn’t. Both of her arms and legs are tied. The ropes are tight, and she knew the marks it would have left once they loosened. She could feel it biting across her skin, and it sting. She bit her lips. But funny how she did not cry. Perhaps, her tears are already dry. She was tired of bawling her eyes out, and calling for help, when none came from how much had she repeated those words. Are they monsters? Are they borne from evil? Maybe, maybe not. She lost care. She already felt numb. “Well well, look who’s here today.” The familiar voice she learn to get acquainted from uttered. It was Jake. She knew it was him. His footsteps, the heavy footfalls left behind by his boots suggested that it was him. The floors creek, and screech under his weight as he walked to where she is. She balled her fist. “You liar!” Angry, she directed her fury towards the male. How can she be fool and trusted somebody who has abducted her? When Jake learn that she was ready to pay even a million, he had taken that leverage not as an opportunity to do good deeds for some time and let her escape and be freed; instead of, he took that as a chance to force Yna by torturing her for days so that she would have in the moment. “Am I?” Jake grins. As he did, it shows the yellowish set of teeth behind his lips. Jake may seems handsome for most women, he looks ragged, but he was evil. He had been made pure from evil. ‘Bastard.’ She spat out inside her head. She bite her tongue, because if she did curse him again, she knew how much it could put her into so much trouble now that some of the men on the vessel seems like they do not care at all. They would just look at her but without remorse. They would walked past at her, and there wouldn’t be any sympathy and pity she could envisioned across their eyes. They look inhuman, but she knew, although they haven’t touch her except Jake, she knew that the group she saw before is the one who are suffering from their hands. The thought of those men and women made her shuddered. She didn’t know how long had she heard their screams—them, pleading followed by a blood-curdling scream and a laugh in synch with the others. To imagine the horrors they might have gone through she couldn’t stomach with. Her reverie has been cut off short, when Jake walked closer and bend his head in front of her. “I am not a liar.” He smirk. It disgust Yna. “You were just to stupid to believe that money works all the way for you, Anna.” Her eyes widened when her name rolled across his tongue. “H—how did you know my name?” She asked. Yna couldn’t help, but fear the worst. If Jake know her name, then probably she knew where she live, and the danger she assumed it could or they could have inflicted to her family made her stomach churned. She didn’t like those thoughts in a bit. “You really think we have just take you just because you were there in the right place?” His lips protruded into an ear splitting grin. “You were supposed to be there you know—” “I don’t understand.” She frowns. Everything suddenly became much confusing. She was supposed to be there, but how? How can they expected her to be there unless everything had been planned out? She didn’t know exactly what was happening. She wanted to argue that it was impossible. That Jake was just playing his tricks inside her head to made her thoughts jumbled, but she couldn’t. But there’s only one person that was running inside her head as of the moment. And she do not wanted, nor urge herself to believe that….that person could do it. Her teeth clenched. “You were just fooling around.” She glared at him, regardless of pain. Her eyes sending daggers to where he is, but he seems unaffected by the display of fury that was coiling around her orbs. In fact, Jake seems amused, and beyond that, he seems to be enjoying Yna on that state. Lost in anger, and was slowly getting devoured by darkness. That such darkness where no escape has been offered whereas to run she couldn’t be ousted. She was trapped, and the devil that was pinning her down under his mercy took it as his own entertainment. “You know that I am not fooling around, yet you just couldn’t admit it, do you?” He chuckled. It sent chills to her spine, but she hide her expression—hardened visage, where she show nothing, but anger. Because as of the moment, that was the only emotion that keeps giving her the flame to survive, the fire she knew that was left on her chest. It was the only thing that was keeping her and her child alive in spite of the tortures and unending suffering. “I won’t believe you!” She was stubborn. “She won’t ever do something like this—” “A million dollar, do you remember?” Jake cut her off, and she wanted to erase that grin on her face that was making her annoyed. “Don’t f**k up with me…!” She dreamed. “Well, I am not.” He glanced at her. “It’s funny how you offered a million dollar, yet how you had been also sold by a million dollar you were speaking about.” “N—no.” She shook her head. “Don’t lie to me!” “Well it depends on you whether you are going to believe me or not, but I do understand that truth often hurts, Anna.” With that said, Jake pulled himself up, he was laughing, cackling as he walked outside. He stormed out of the room, where Yna was held captive while she was left there. She is wondering, and speechless, because Yna knew who that person he was speaking about. “M—mama…” She trembled. Her lips quivered. She could feel her trust and her heart breaking into pieces without any chance that it would be redeemed. Each pieces that left her bleeding, the bloods she bleeds from that lead for tears. It also lead for wounds and scars that she won’t be able to even heal. It was incurable, she was broken as well as her soul. She thought that she had already been tired of crying, but something urge her that it was better to let out everything that was making her suffer. Pain swarmed inside her chest. Her eyes watered, and soon enough she was crying non-stop not because of her wounds, but by what her mother had done. “W—why….” She couldn’t help, but ask out of the blue. To all of the person she could think that would do things like this for her, she never imagine that her own blood, her own mother would be the mastermind behind all. Her sweet mother who always care for her. How…had she done something that pushed her to do so? “A million dollar, huh?” Her voice cracked as she bitterly laughs. She clenched her fist. Her eyes are blurry. She couldn’t see a thing, and it hurts badly. She was at that state when somebody spoke up. “Are you just going to cry there?” It was a voice of a man. She ignored him, nor was the fact that she isn’t familiar with him. His voice is deep, and it was baritone. “Just go away.” She pleaded. Yet she heard no footsteps. His presence are still there, and she could still feel him from where he was, although she couldn’t see a thing because her eyesight are blocked from the tears she had cried from earlier. “Tch.” The man clicked his tongue. “I don’t really know why he would pay a large amount for a woman like you.” “P—please just go.” His insult did not affect her. She was numb from their words. She couldn’t feel a thing no matter how much they are trying to hurt her. Their words mean nothing. Is there’s something that could hurt more than what her mother have done? Is there a thing, where she could be inflicted upon than the fact that she had been sold for money? Nothing. Not anymore. “Just go away, if you re just here to insult me, because right now I don’t need it.” She closed her eyes. “So, you are just going to give up after fighting for days?” The man was mocking. His voice was filled with so much mockery to which she had gotten used to. She did not bath him an eyelash. See just kay there, and was completely defeated. “I was fighting, because I thought I should.” She smiled painfully. “I thought that I needed to, because my family may have been dead worried about me…” She paused for a moment. She was momentarily stunned, no, her lips seems to be sealed shut upon remembering what Jake had told her, and no matter how much she was trying to tell herself that her mother isn’t capable of it, it was hard. She couldn’t convince herself and this sucks. “And then what happened?” The man seems intrigued or so she though as he curiously asked for the reason why Yna seems defeated. “It was because they are the reason why I am here suffering at the moment.” She whispered. “I didn’t quite get it.” The man said to her. The tides made have been louder than her whisper. She let out a sigh. To speak of about it were like there are thousands of knives that were penetrating her chest. They were there still buried, their sharp edge that made her to continue to bleeds nonstop. The blood flows and she do not wanted them to stop anymore. She wanted tl let it all out, because that was the only thing she can resort as of the moment. “They…they sold me in exchange of money.” She uttered as she tried her hardest to gulps the lump that was slowly forming inside her throat. She bit her lips. She was gnawing at it as she tried her hardest to stop the overwhelming emotions taking overhead at her. “And that was making you cry already?” “Shut up!” She whipped her head across to glare at him, only for her to get stopped. When her vision clears, she was glued, and shocked to the core. Never had she imagined that he would be there. And never had she expected him to be right off exactly to when she needed him. “Zachary...” She muster the courage to speak of his name. Meanwhile, Zachary look at her seriously. He was leaning on the wall, clad on something black that she couldn’t quote shape out because of how dark the room was, and the only thing that guided her to know that it was him was the moonlight. “A—am I dreaming?” She questioned herself. “I am not dreaming, right? It’s you, isn’t it? Please tell me that I am not just hallucinating here, because I could feel this days that my head is going to drive me mad.” She was begging, but it was true. What is her head was just playing tricks on her, because of stress? She do not wanted to give herself some false hope that could mislead her again. She do not wanted to hurt herself anymore, but when he stepped forward and finally when he’s near, he lowered his head and planted a soft kiss on her forehead, she knew that she isn’t dreaming anymore. “I’m here, and don’t here, I’ll punish them for you.” Unbeknownst to her, there’s a dangerous spark on his orbs that was ready to lashed out in any second. “Y—you are here....” Her voice was shaking. She wasn’t dreaming. The moment she wrapped her arms around him, she knew for sure that it wasn’t just a illusion that her mind has been playing tricks with her. It was far more better than that. It wasn’t a nightmare precedent by her thoughts just because of how she was missing Zachary. His smell quickly filled her nose. The sense of comfort and hope came back to her, and she had nothing more to ask, when it was already given to her. Zachary gave her more tbsn6the desire to live and survive, her and their child that seems to be growing inside of her belly. Perhaps, she can tell it to him after they escape this clutch of evil. “Shhh, I’m here.” He whispered above her ears, while Yna buried her head on her chest. The warmth radiating from him seems to lulled Anna. Preoccupied, she had totally forgotten everything. Her mind disregard the danger, as her body felt utterly secured and safe with him. How can it be possible? She was almost at the brink of losing herself, and drowning everything as she wish for death, but here he comes, his presence save her. Zachary pulled her away and embraced her as if his life depended on her. If only, but Yna wouldn’t ask for more than what he can give or what he was able to provide for her, because she was already contented. “B—but how did you know I was here?” When she pulled away from their embrace, the was the first thing she asked. “I have my ways.” Full with meaning, Zachary uttered. He chuckled, but his expression remain rather dangerous. It was blazing, but it never hurt nor had it burn her. More or so, it wasn’t directed to her, but for those men who had dare lay a hand on him. “You could have called the police, you need to be here—” She, in an attempt to rescue her heart wrapped around his palms, she said. “I needed to be here.” His jaw clenched as he frowns. “I needed to punish them, and I needed you to watch.” Her eyes widened. “B—but—” She tried to disagree with him. She would admit it, although she won’t show it or refuse to set in display, but she felt scared. She was somewhat scared about what kind of punishment he was speaking about. As of the moment, she knew that Zachary is capable of so many things. With his eyes darkening, and the hooded expression, she knew how ruthless and merciless he could become. She was cut off, when the latter placed his finger between her lips to hush her worries. “If you are afraid, you don’t need to.” He assured her. But she wasn’t afraid for herself, but what kind of monster that was yet to come for those men. Zahary in front of her reminded her of a beast. A monster, who was in seek of blood, and was thirsty for death. Thus far, the only thing that could patched up what it is craving for was to kill, annihilate life, and take away everything for its own entertainment. That’s how she can see and perceived Zachary. She looks away, and avoided looking at his eyes. “I just wanted to go home.” She whispered. “Can’t we just go home...?” To ask for something she greatly wanted is what she really felt. When she looked at the blue water, where the moon was shining brightly as it was reflected, a cold breeze kissed her skin and she shuddered. But it keeps her calm. The coolness that swept through from the sea to her felt like it was trying to tell her that everything would soon be okay. That it would be alright soon the way how she likes it. “We can’t.” Zachary responded. His tone is hard. It was as if he totally disagree with what she wanted. He does not seems mad to her, but towards something else. “I cannot let you go home without punishing those who have done this to you, Anna." “Why do you care whether I wanted them to be punished or not?" She didn’t where does this bitterness are coming from. It relished across her tongue. It left a tang that made her chest shattered for no apparent reason. Is she being emotional? But she doesn’t need to as of the moment. However, she couldn’t control her emotions. They were brewing non-stop. They are devouring her slowly. “ANNA!” Zachary frowns. He do not like what she just said. “You are not just somebody—” “Then who I am to you?” Boldly, she looked straight at his eyes. There’s this softness which briefly sparkled those emerald green she could have gotten herself at lost. They were something she always admired, Zachary’s eyes that always touch her chest until her admiration gone deeper and soon enough she felt that she loves the man more than anything else. He do not love her, doesn’t he? She didn’t know whom to trust anymore. Perhaps, she can trust Zachary, but what if he betrayed her too? She can’t. If it happens, that might actually kill her. Not in a sense of being literally dead, buy it could happen. Where she will leave numb, and unmoving, empty and have no desire to even continue life. “You are...” Zachary seems torn. “Anna, don’t do this...” After a pause, he added as he trailed off. This only worsen the growing feeling inside of her. She hold back her tears. “I do understand.” She could almost felt proud to herself, when her voice came out strong, and it was rather bold, it did not break, but it was utterly on the brink. She was at the age and Zachery had pushed her so. “Don’t worry, I can comprehend what was difference between us." She coldly uttered after a moment. Zachary clenched his fist. “Anna—” He tried to reach out for her, but she kept her distance. Only at that moment, the ship rocked, it happened too fast. It was Anna's silent scream is what Zachary heard before sh disappeared across to the waves.
