[Storme’s POV]
TWO HOURS AFTER . . .
I was patiently waiting outside the ladies room when Chantelle, my cousin called me.
“How’s my acting cousin dear? Did I do it with a bang? You saw everything, right?” she asked in her annoyingly shrill voice.
“Yeah! You did tremendously great, Chan. Thank you. I owe you one.”
“Just so you know, cousin. My acting comes with a price.”
“Name your price, Chan,” I answered irritably. I’ve been waiting here for two hours. My Business Management class starts in five minutes.
“Wooo! Name my price? Are you sure about that, Devin?”
“Yes, certainly. What do you want in return?”
“That Gucci sunglasses we saw at the airport,” she answered.
“How many more sunglasses do you need? You already have thousands of them.”
“That’s what I want in exchange for my acting and keeping your dark secrets.”
“You gotta be kidding me, Chan. We are not in SanFo. How am I supposed to buy that?”
“If you want it. You’ll get it. Not my problem, cousin. I need those shades in a week.”
“In a week?”
“Yes in a week, cousin. Since your pretty little angelic devil girlfriend said ‘my Chanel sunglasses doesn’t match my face.’”
“Chan, what could possibly the hold up if a girl is taking long time inside the ladies’ room?” I asked Chan. All of this courting thing is new to me. I haven’t asked a girl out because they initiate the dates. I haven’t taken anyone of them seriously. A date is just a date and it ends there. Now, I have a different perspective. She will fall under my trap whether she resist.
“We don’t take long in the ladies’ room unless we are hiding from somebody.”
“ What do you mean? Where are you?”
“Sitting here watching you so stupidly waiting for a girl who left you two hours ago in a red hoodie.”
“What? In a red hoodie?”
“Ha!Ha!Ha! Devin . . . Devin . . . My dear cousin, Summer outsmarted you,” she continued laughing out loud with her annoying voice.
“Ugh! That! That—,” he raked his hair witg his finger and through his hands in the air in anger. “Gotta go, Chan. I’ll be late in class.”
“You don’t need to rush. Snow said it’s all an introduction.”
“Bye, Chan.”
“Wait! Wait! Don’t hang up. What are we gonna do with Popsie’s car?”
“I don’t know yet. I didn’t know she’s hot-tempered,” I ended the call, thinking what will I do with the Pontiac.
What should I tell mom? I found a way for Summer to be close to me.
Unfortunately, she damaged the car? I walked to the Business Management building not too far from the ladies room. The professor was already inside the classroom when I entered the room. Everyone was holding a few pages of paper in their hands and a card that looks like an index card. I was on my way to sit on the vacant seats near the exit door when the professor caught my attention.
“Introduce yourself young man,” said Professor Dwight Malaniton. “ Come forward.,” I look at him not understanding what he meant. “Introduce yourself here in the front,” he explained. The students in my BM class are all eyes on me. I felt like a superstar, a heartthrob.
“Mr. Buenavente, are you waiting for the New Year?”
“I-I-.”
I was walking to the front when I heard a loud bang coming from the back door,
the exit door of the classroom. I saw the girl that made me wait for two hours by the ladies room. I stared at her angrily. She did not bother to greet the professor and went straight to the vacant seat near the exit door where I was about to be seated. I wasn’t able to introduce myself because Summer entered the classroom and made a scene.
“Miss Almeda! You’re fifteen minutes late,” Professor Lamit shouted.
“It’s nothing new, Dwight!” Summer answered making our classmates laugh at the professor.
“You have to be on time in my class or better drop out!”
“I’m preparing for my student assembly presentation, Dwight. Besides, when was I early? It would be doomsday if I come on time,” she said in a grimace.
How rude can she be? Summer called our professor by first name.
“Let me remind you Miss Almeda. You are in my class therefore address me properly.”
“If you can excuse me, may I take seat now, Professor Lanitnit. I mean Professor Dwight Lamit?”
“I’ll make sure this gets to your mother, Skylene. You are the student council vice-president but your attitude. Your attitude! ”
“What about my attitude?” Does my attitude have something to do with how I run the council, Sir?”
“No, but —,” he was lost for words.
“Precisely, no! So, don’t judge my attitude to be the worst when you know I am an overachiever and students respect me to the utmost level. My attitude depends on what you are not who you are. If I must respect you. Isn’t that you should respect your students first? Am I right, Mr. Lamit?”
Summer can be talkative as she can be. A debater. Our professor was left speechless.
“You may take your seat, Miss Almeda.”
Summer comfortably sat on the vacant chair near the exit door. I watched her
how she looked around looking for Stella and Nadine or me? Why would he look for you Storme? She ran away from you a couple hours ago, remember?
“Mr. Buenavente, are you going to stand there or you will start talking?”
“ Good Morning, classmates! What a mesmerizing welcome approach. I think Miss Almeda was right. Respect should be given to those worthy of it. I am Devin Storme Buenavente. You may call Vin, I prefer Storme. I am a new member of The Halo band. I’ll be playing the keyboard. See you all later and watch our first performance of this school year,” a long speech I am not used to doing.
“You may take a seat Mr. Buenavente.”
I saw Summer not paying attention. She seems to be writing something or sketching on her desk. I need to teach her a lesson by making me wait for two hours by the ladies room. You can’t run away from me after this, Princess Sunshine. The power of Storme. It’s vindictive!
“I have an announcement. Everyone, no one touches Skylene Summer Almeda or it will be the end of your stay in EAU.”
“Shut up, Storme! You’re talking nonsense,” she hissed.
“I also wanted to clear the rumors and gossip. Yes, we are dating exclusively. Summer is not only my girlfriend. Because —," I looked at Summer. A frown creased her forehead, ,"—we’re engaged.”
As soon as I finished saying the words ‘engaged’ my backpack flew in the air spinning like a frisbee landing exactly on my face.
