Caden pulled up to the brownstone and glanced at Alexis who sat in the passenger seat beside him. She fidgeted, looking out the window at her childhood home. He reached over and grasped her hand. Alexis turned to look at him, her expression contorted by anxiety and uncertainty. “Lex, your family is here to support you,” Caden said. “You don’t have to hide from them.” She nodded but didn’t say anything. Caden frowned. He didn’t like that she felt she had to protect her family from important news. Family was meant to be a safety net to share one’s burdens. Alexis shouldn’t feel like she had to hide anything from them. Still, he wouldn’t say anything to them until she was ready to speak with them first.
