Reborn

Amelia's POV I jerk awake. My hand immediately goes to my stomach. I am relieved to feel my baby is still inside me! I sit upright. I look around the room, and that's when I realise. I am in my room in the Packhouse. It is late in the afternoon, and I must have fallen asleep. Was it a dream? Did I dream everything that happened? No, it was too real. I was in jail for two months before they killed me. I know the hell I went through. Did they save me? But why is my baby still alive in me? I know it is, as I can feel her soul inside me. I checked my phone and it showed June 21, 2024 on the screen. I couldn't believe it! Am I reborn? Did I crawl out of the depths of hell to come back? Did the moon goddess have mercy on my soul and give me another chance at life? She takes me back to the night before I died! This time, I will protect my baby with everything inside me. My door swings open, and Leona walks in as if nothing happened. As if she didn't kill me last night. Yeah, nothing's happened yet. I know what she is planning, but it won't happen. "Hey, Amelia! I have been waiting for you! What's the secret you want to tell me?" Leona looked at my hand touching my stomach and she asked me in feigned surprise, “Are you pregnant?” "No, I'm not pregnant. I was going to discuss the present I bought for Lucas with you. It is his birthday party tomorrow." I force myself to smile. This time I will keep it a secret. I don't want Lucas to know that I am pregnant. I'll protect my baby. "I thought a watch might suit Lucas." I produced the timepiece from my pocket, its surface dull with years of neglect in some forgotten drawer. In a previous life, I gave Lucas a pair of expensive cufflinks. Silver and sapphire, our initials entwined like promises. Now, he deserved neither the jewels nor the memories. This watch would do. "Lovely," Leona murmured, barely glancing at the watch as she filled my glass with dark, rippling wine. "Even though Lucas isn't here, we can still celebrate his upcoming birthday. Let's have a glass of wine." "Not tonight, Leona." I pressed a hand to my temple, letting my voice waver just enough. "I should keep a clear head for tomorrow's festivities - one never knows what surprises a birthday might bring." Then, with deliberate fragility, I coughed into my sleeve before meeting her eyes. "Perhaps some water instead? My throat feels...parched." "Of course, I'll get you water," Leona said, her voice honeyed as she took the wineglass away. But in the mirror's reflection, I caught her eyes rolling—that fleeting moment of annoyance before she schooled her features back into concern. The water glass she prepared gleamed innocently on the counter, but I knew better. Crushed sleeping pills probably swirled in its depths, waiting to pull me under. Refusing it would only make her more desperate, more unpredictable. So I would drink. Let her think her plan was unfolding perfectly. While silently, carefully, I wove her scheme into my own. This wasn't surrender. This was the first move. The glass trembled slightly in my grasp as Leona pressed it into my hands. "Drink up," she urged, her smile never reaching her eyes. I didn't drink from the glass. With calculated clumsiness, I let my watch slip from my hand. As she bent down to pick it up, I quickly poured the water into the plants on the table. By the time Leona straightened up, I was pressing the empty glass to my lips, feigning a sip. It is already getting dark. I pretended to feel faint. Leona grabbed me and led me to the bed. I wait. A while later, the omega slips into my room. I am expecting him, so this time I will wait behind the door. He slips inside, and I hit him on the head with a heavy vase. I pull him away and dumb him down in an old, empty well. I know he cannot escape and will die there, but he is getting what he deserves for working with Leona. Upon returning to my room, I contacted a private investigator and asked him to find me proof that Lucas and Leona had betrayed me. I paid him a very expensive fee because I wanted it before dawn. Now, everything is ready. I sat on the bed and waited for Leona to come in with Lucas. My trap is waiting for its prey. The Alpha's birthday party lasts from dawn until dusk. I know Lucas will be up early to start celebrating his birthday. Besides, some guests will begin arriving soon after dawn, so Lucas was sleeping in his office last night. My eyelids grew heavy, the pull of sleep nearly overwhelming me, when the muffled footsteps came. "Lucas, please," Leona's voice wavered with false concern. "I know what I saw, but...perhaps there's an innocent explanation? Amelia and that man might have been finalizing banquet details..." "Details?" Lucas's voice was raw, shredded by betrayal. "They've been locked in here all night! What kind of details require that?" Beneath my feigned slumber, my lips threatened to curl. How easily they swallowed the bait. I kept my breathing slow and even, my body limp against the pillows as the door creaked open. "What the hell is going on here?" Lucas asks as he did the last time, but then he turns to Leona. "Leona, how could you accuse me of such a thing?" I brought a trembling hand to my chest, and my voice broke with practiced hurt. "After everything Lucas and I have been through... I would never betray him." But Leona was unraveling. "I swear it!" she shrieked, drawing the attention of nearby guests. Their murmurs rippled through the hallway as curious faces peered in, their judgment already tilting against her. "She was with someone last night—I saw him!" Yet the more she insisted, the more unhinged she sounded. And the more my quiet, wounded composure became the only truth that mattered. "Leona!" Lucas snapped, his voice cutting through the tension like a blade. "Enough of this spectacle. You're embarrassing yourself—and me." He turned to me, his expression softening into that practiced mask of concern I'd once mistaken for love. "Amelia, forgive this... misunderstanding. Let's prepare for the party." Before I was born again, I might have melted at his apology. But I was reborn, and I knew he was having an affair with Leona. I do not know if he is disappointed or not, but I don't care. I know he wants to get rid of me. I'll leave, but I'll make them pay! "I will get ready. I will be down with you all in a while. Everybody, please join my husband and Leono downstairs. I want to get dressed. I'm sorry about this disruption. I don't know what's going on, but we'll figure it out later." I say with a sweet smile. Leano still looks confused and glares at me as everyone leaves. She turns to me and gives me one last look as if she is trying to figure out how I did it and what I am planning. She bends down one last time to look under my bed, but I only smile at her. I know I am making her nervous. The moment Leona's footsteps faded, I clicked open the investigator's email. My screen flooded with damning evidence—grainy surveillance stills and timestamped videos, all revealing that Lucas and Leona had betrayed me. Away from the Silvermoon pack, they were as close as lovers. How many times had they played this scene while I remained oblivious? How many whispered promises had they exchanged over my trust? No more.
