Chapter 163 ~ Hailey ~ Then the man came closer, stepping fully into the light. His boots scraped against the concrete floor, the sound slow and deliberate, like he wanted me to hear every step he took toward me. And I could see his face clearly now. The shadows peeled away inch by inch, revealing features I knew too well, features I had hoped never to see again. "Marcus?" The name came out strangled. Disbelieving. It felt wrong in my mouth, like saying it might make him more real, might lock me into this nightmare permanently. "Oh yes, that's me, Hailey," he said, laughing very sinisterly. The sound echoed through the empty warehouse, bouncing off the walls and making my skin crawl. The laughter sounded unhinged, sharp and hollow, like it didn’t belong to a sane person anymore.
