Navine scoffed… a harsh, bitter sound that made something defensive rise in my chest.
"Is that a threat?" he asked, his voice dangerously quiet.
I looked away, unable to hold his gaze. My heart was pounding so hard I could feel it in my throat. I'd never threatened anyone before. Never used someone else's secrets as leverage. The words had come out in desperation, and now that they were hanging in the air between us, I felt sick.
But I couldn't take them back. Couldn't back down now.
