Chapter 12
Trent decided not to go to the office today. He called Aiden to tell him everything went fine at the clinic and agreed to chat about it tomorrow. We are now heading over to see Philip and Hazel, Trents parents. To break the news of the pregnancy and sort out the rumours about Melissa.
As we pull up to the drive way, I get the sudden nauseous feeling, not sure if it’s the nerves of breaking the news or this pregnancy, morning sickness, that I had hoped to avoid. I take a sip of water for the bottle I carry in my bag. Trent takes one look at me “You ok baby, feeling sick?” he asks as he rubs his hand over my still flat tummy. “Yeah a little, might be nerves though?” I say as we climb out the car.
We head straight in Trent calling out for his parents, who come almost running from the lounge. “Trent Colton, what the devil have you done?” Hazel shouts as she rounds the corner. “Mum, calm down. Let me explain everything first. As I said on the phone, you have to listen to the facts” Trents says as he grabs a hold of her arm, leading her back into the lounge to where Philip is sitting reading his newspaper. “Avery, sweetheart. You look pale, are you unwell?” Philip asks as he brings me in for a hug. “I’m ok thanks” I say as I sit down beside Trent opposite his parents.
“You better get talking my boy” Hazel says crossing her arms over her chest. At that Trent sits and explains everything, no one speaks until Trent has finished talking about Melissa and her jealous ways and the fact that she can’t count simple maths, 9 months a pregnancy is, she really is a crazy one. “So, it is definitely not my child mum.” He sits back and relaxes. He talked for what felt for hours, in reality was about 20 minutes, his mum asked a few questions here and there but got it all sorted out. “Right, who wants coffee” Philip stands up heading to the kitchen. “Tea please Dad, Avery isn’t allowed to drink coffee for a while” Trent says, dropping hints about my pregnancy. “Why? She loves her coffee” Hazel says with a confused look on her face. “Well, Melissas son is not mine, but the child Avery is carrying is one hundred percent mine.” Trent drops the bomb reaching over to kiss my temple, at the same time his screams her head off. Jumping up and down, very similar to the way Trent did when he seen the tests in the bathroom last night.
After we all calmed down and had shown the scan pictures, Hazel keeping one for herself. We sat and had tea and cakes in the lounge, chatting about babies and how I might need to get my dress altered for the wedding. Which I had totally forgotten about. The dress I had picked didn’t need many alterations, just the length as it was too long even with wearing 4 inch heals. “I will call the dress shop and speak to them about it. Might have to change to the dress completely” I say slightly sad about that fact. I really loved the dress. I knew Trent would have loved it. Simple but elegant.
“Lets not worry about it today, lets enjoy this and celebrate tonight. We can go out for a family dinner?” Hazel suggests as she looks at us all with bright eyes. After agreeing to go out for dinner, Philip checking with Donna and Aiden to see if they had plans. All agreeing a time, we leave Philip and Hazel to call a restaurant to get a reservation. Trent and I head back to the office to check in with Aiden, making sure everything is ok before heading home.
When we arrive at the office building, we can see a few security guards huddled around the main receptions desk. Looks like someone is being escorted out of the building. Trent pulls me to the side and blocks me from the view. “Trent is that Melissa?” I ask as I peak over his shoulder. “Think so, I cant really tell from here?” we head over to see what the situation is. I feel Trents posture change as we get closer to the reception area. “Whats the problem here?” Trents asks one of the guards closest to him. “Mr Colton, Melissa has been demanding to see you for the last hour, she would not listen to us. We told her you weren’t in the building.
“You. f*****g b***h. You stole my man. I’m going to f*****g kill you” Melissa screams as she pounces on me, the security guard goes to pull her back but he is too late. She slips through the crowd and straight to me. Pushing me on the ground, my head smashes on the concrete flooring and slaps my face. I lift my arms up to protect my stomach, instantly thinking of my baby. Her weight is lifted off my but I cant really tell what is going on, my vision is blurry and I have a buzzing in my ears. “Phone the police, NOW. Get her the f**k away” I hear Trent screaming orders to the staff around us. “Avery, baby. Can you hear me? Baby the ambulance is on its way, stay with me. Avery baby. Talk to me.” I can hear him but I cant get my words out, my head is spinning my vision is going blank, my head is throbbing. “The baby” I whisper as I feel my body falling. And then, darkness complete darkness and silence.
Trents POV
“Avery, baby. Can you hear me? Baby the ambulance is on its way, stay with me. Avery baby. Talk to me.” I shake her gently to try keep her awake, she is slipping way, “Baby, stay with me. Where the f**k is the ambulance?” I scream out to anyone that is listening. Just then I hear the sirens and the paramedics run through the reception area. The paramedics go straight to work an Avery, asking me what happened and any medical issues they should know about. “She is pregnant, we only found out this morning” I tell them as they lift her on to the trolley and start to wheel her out to the ambulance. I follow them in a complete haze, not knowing what the hell is going to happen. I cant lose her, she is my life, without her I’m nothing. The baby. God what if she loses the baby. Get it together Trent she needs you to be strong get your ass in gear. I tell Trevor to inform Aiden what has happened, to call my parents and Danny. I climb into the back of the ambulance just as I hear the heartbeat monitor telling me she is still there. I take her hand in mine as the ambulance pulls away from the kerb. The paramedic beside me filling out forms and check the wires attached to Averys chest and hands. He asks questions about the pregnancy, how far on she is and if she has any allergies. I answer his question all the while not taking my eyes away from Avery. The love of my life. Within minutes we arrive at the hospital and again she is wheeled away from me. I am left sitting in the waiting area, they said once she was stable they would send someone to come get. I cant just sit here doing nothing.
Just then Aiden comes rushes towards me with Donna on his tail. He pulls me in for a brotherly hug and pulls me to get a seat before I pass out from shock. I can hear them talking to me, but I can’t focus, my mind on Avery, in that room on her own with no family around her. “I can’t lose her” I whisper to myself as I place my hands on the back of my head and put my head in my knees. “Trent, bro. Come on she is a fighter, she will make.” Aiden tells me as he puts his arms around my shoulders.
About half hour later, the doctor comes out to us “Ms Benson is stable but the next 24 hours are critical. She has a head trauma but the scans show only slight swelling and no bleeding which is good. If you follow me you can sit with her for a while. We are organising a private room for her” the doctor explains as she leads us to the room Avery is in.
When they pull the curtain round, I’m frozen. I cannot move my feet. My head tells me to move but I can’t. She is just lying there with a bandage around her head, all the machines around her making some noise. Aiden pulls me by the arm to move me closer to her. I sit in the chair next the bed, I lift her hand. Its so cold, freezing. “She has slipped into a coma, we will be monitoring her very closely Mr Colton” The doctor leaves. “Coma, f**k. Avery baby, I’m here. I’m leaving until you wake up. I love you so much sweetheart” I kiss her temple and bring her hand to my lips and kiss her engagement ring. “Please don’t leave me”.
