Adrian’s POV:
The soft, warm morning sunlight filtered through the sheer curtains of the master suite, painting the room in a gentle golden hue.
I blinked open my eyes, feeling a heavy, comforting warmth resting against my left side. I looked down, and my breath caught in my throat. Vivian—my fierce, sharp, untouchable wife—was fast asleep, curled tightly against my chest. Her long, dark hair spilled across the ivory pillows like silk, a soft, serene expression replacing the sharp, guarded composure she wore like armor every single day.
She looked like an absolute goddess.
A wave of profound, overwhelming tenderness washed over me. Carefully, silently, I leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss into the crown of her head, breathing in the sweet scent of jasmine and the lingering warmth of our skin. I tried my best not to wake her as I slowly slid out from under the duvet.
Looking back at her sleeping form, a quiet vow solidified in my chest. Vivian had spent years carrying the weight of the world alone, fighting off corporate mongrels and grieving the mother who had been her only shield. I wanted to pamper her. I wanted to surround her with every ounce of love, care, and absolute devotion she had been deprived of for far too long.
I quietly slipped down to the kitchen. For the next hour, I poured my heart into preparing a grand breakfast—freshly squeezed orange juice, a colorful platter of sliced berries, crispy rashers, and a tall stack of warm buttermilk pancakes drizzled with organic honey. I arranged everything neatly on a silver breakfast tray, complete with a single fresh orchid from the living room, and carried it back up the corridor.
When I stepped into the bedroom, she hadn't moved an inch, still wrapped snugly in the duvet. Setting the tray down on the bedside table, I climbed back onto the mattress and leaned over her.
"Hey, babe..." I cooed softly into her ear, my lips brushing against the sensitive skin before gently nipping her earlobe.
Vivian let out a low, delicious moan, shifting against the sheets.
"Morning, baby... wake up..."
"Why are you up so early?" she mumbled sleepily, her eyelids fluttering open, dark eyes unfocused and charmingly heavy with sleep.
"It's nine o'clock," I chuckled, running my fingers through her soft hair. "And I have to go to work."
"Get leave," she demanded softly, reaching up to wrap her arms firmly around my neck, pulling my chest back down against hers.
"Sorry, darling," I teased, grinning lopsidedly into her neck, "but I have to assist my lady boss. Not everyone is a CEO here, you know."
Vivian buried her face into my neck, her voice muffled against my collarbone. "Tell that cold lady to f**k off. I want my husband in bed."
A genuine laugh burst from my chest. "Hey, you can't talk like that about my boss!"
"I can do whatever the hell I want," she murmured, pulling back just enough to glare at me with a pout that completely melted my heart. "Now shut up and kiss me."
God, how could I ever resist her? I possessed zero power against this woman.
I leaned down and captured her lips in a deep, hungry kiss. As her mouth opened beneath mine, my heart thundered against my ribs. Yesterday, when she had asked why I had been celibate my whole life, I had told her about my upbringing in Italy. But the unvarnished truth—the truth I couldn't tell her without revealing my real name—was that I had been saving myself for her.
I had loved Vivian Matthews from afar long before I ever stepped into Aurora Life Sciences. I had wanted her, and only her, my entire life. There was never a second choice, never a temporary replacement. It had always been Vivian.
My restraint snapped. I pulled the heavy duvet away, exposing her bare, golden skin to the morning air. Vivian gasped softly as I shifted my weight, settling between her thighs.
"Adrian..." she whispered, her hands sliding down my back, her nails digging into my muscles.
"You asked for this, Mrs. Rossi," I growled softly against her lips, pouring every drop of my hidden, intense love into the touch.
I kissed her with a slow, agonizing passion that made her arch her back off the mattress. My hands mapped every inch of her body, cupping the flare of her hips, trailing up her ribcage, and lifting her breasts to meet my eager mouth. When I took her n****e between my lips, swirling my tongue over the sensitive peak, Vivian cried out my name, her fingers tangling frantically in my hair.
"You're so soft... so incredibly perfect," I breathed against her chest, my voice thick with emotion.
I slid down her body, pressing hot, lingering kisses down her flat stomach, teasing the inner curves of her thighs until she was trembling, slick, and completely desperate for me. Pausing between her thighs, I rested my hands under her lower back, lifting her slightly as I leaned down to taste her. Simultaneously, my fingers slipped into her core, testing her readiness for me; she let out a shattered, whimpering gasp, her heels digging into the mattress.
Vivian let out a shattered, breathless gasp, her hands flying up to tangle tightly into my hair as a sudden tremor ran through her entire body. I took my time, using soft, rhythmic strokes of my tongue to coax a helpless, musical moan from her throat until she was whimpering, slick, and completely undone beneath me.
"Please, Adrian... I need you inside me... now," she begged, her dark eyes wide and glossy with unsaid desire.
I didn't keep her waiting. I rose, guiding myself to her entrance, and pushed slowly, deliberately inside her.
We both let out a shuddering gasp as our bodies fused again. The feeling of being completely buried inside my wife—knowing she was mine, knowing I was hers—was a high far more potent than any power or wealth in the world.
I established a deep, powerful rhythm, driving into her with a steady, rhythmic movement that echoed softly in the quiet room. Vivian wrapped her long legs tightly around my waist, pulling me impossibly deeper, her lips meeting mine in a feverish, breathless exchange. Every thrust was a silent confession of the love I was forced to keep hidden in words—a promise that I would protect her, worship her, and stand by her side until my last breath.
"Adrian—oh God!" she sobbed out, her inner walls suddenly tightening violently around me, sending a shockwave of intense pleasure straight up my spine.
Feeling her peak triggered my own release, I drove into her one last, deep time, holding her tightly against my chest as a guttural groan tore from my throat, spilling myself completely inside her as we shattered together in the morning light.
After we finally caught our breath, we remained cuddled in each other for a long moment. Then we ate the now-tepid breakfast right there in bed, feeding each other pieces of fruit and sharing soft, lazy kisses between bites.
Once the tray was cleared, I scooped Vivian up into my arms and carried her straight into the master bathroom. Under the hot, cascading streams of the rainfall shower, we washed each other off—a sweet, quiet, intimate ritual where I gently lathered soap over her shoulders and back, kissing away the faint red marks I had left on her skin.
An hour later, we stepped out of the penthouse, fully dressed in our sharp corporate attire. I locked the front door behind us and turned to press a quick kiss to her cheek. "Goodbye, darling."
Vivian paused, her keys hovering near her designer handbag, her brows drawing together in confusion. "Where are you going?"
"Uhmm... to work?" I said, smiling innocently.
She rolled her eyes, an amused scoff escaping her lips. "I know that, but where are you going right now?"
"I'll take the metro, like I always do."
"You know we are going to the same place," she said, gesturing toward the private elevator. "Don't you think it would be better to share the ride?"
I pretended to think about it for a moment, crossing my arms. "You are still my boss, Mrs. Rossi. Do you think that's a good idea for office optics?"
"Of course," she said firmly, grabbing the lapel of my suit jacket and tugging me toward the lift. "Get in. There's no point in taking two separate modes of transport anyway."
As the elevator glided down to the underground garage, I pulled her close, picking up her hand and kissing the back of her palm with utmost chivalry. Vivian looked up at me, and a small, breathtakingly genuine smile illuminated her face.
That single, rare smile was enough to make my entire day.
We rode together in the back of her sleek black town car. Throughout the twenty-minute drive through downtown London, our fingers remained tightly intertwined on the leather seat between us, silently savoring the quiet connection before the storm of corporate life resumed.
The moment the town car pulled up to the glass entrance of Aurora Life Sciences, an invisible switch flipped.
The driver opened the door, and Vivian stepped out first, her shoulders squaring, her face instantly hardening into the unyielding, icy mask of the executive CEO. I stepped out right behind her, taking three swift steps back to maintain the proper distance, slipping seamlessly back into the role of the attentive, quiet executive assistant.
"Good morning, Ms. Matthews," the lobby security guard greeted respectfully as she glided past the turnstiles.
"Good morning," she replied curtly, not missing a beat as her heels clicked sharply against the marble floor.
I followed half a step behind her, carrying her leather briefcase in one hand and my iPad in the other, my eyes scanning the lobby for any potential threats or whispering employees. On the outside, we were once again the cold, untouchable boss and her disciplined subordinate.
But as the executive elevator doors closed us in, sealing us away from the eyes of the staff, Vivian took a subtle, deep breath. Without turning her head, her hand reached back into the small shadow between us, her cool fingers brushing against mine for a split second.
I caught her pinky with my own, giving it a gentle, reassuring squeeze.
The world thought she was fighting her battles alone. But as long as I breathed, Adrian Knight—her assistant, her husband, her guardian—would be standing right behind her.
