I don’t want to do this, but I don’t want them to be blindsided. I want them to have enough time to form a plan for their families. They need to do what is best for them.
Slowly, I stand before the pack at what is probably our last dinner together. “I will be removed as Alpha tomorrow,” I announce. “King Peter will not name another Alpha but will remove the pack altogether.”
Murmurs flood the room. They knew I’d pissed the king off, but I don’t think they knew the extent of it. I hadn’t dreamed he would get rid of my entire pack, or I wouldn’t have pushed so hard. I didn’t want to hurt them.
“I’m sorry,” I tell them. “I never, ever meant to hurt any of you. I did not foresee this as an outcome.”
“Where will we go?” Tom, one of my top warriors, asks.
