Ada sits across from me at the table, her leg bouncing underneath from nerves. “You need to eat,” I tell her.
She nods and takes a bite, but that’s it—only one single bite.
“I’m so nervous,” she says softly. “I haven’t seen him in a long time, and I didn’t realize he was trying to help me.”
“But you know now,” I remind her. “Mistakes were made, but he does care about you.”
She gives me a nervous smile and takes another bite. I can feel through the bond that she’s not in much pain today. I’m happy for her, honestly. I just don’t know what to do. I’m supposed to take care of her, and if she doesn’t need me, what am I supposed to do?
“Don’t you have to be at training?” she asks me.
“No,” I shake my head. Does she really think I’d leave her today? “I wanted to be with
