CHAPTER SEVEN

ZACHARY’s POV.

As soon as I leave Zayn’s office, the smile on my face disappears. I have always known Avery to be a soft spoken lady but did she actually have the nerve to stand in front of Zayn and tell him off that property? I swear by the moon goddess that I want to break her so badly that she will never be able to recover.

As soon as I board my car, I dial Avery’s number almost immediately and she answers, how dare she try to stop zayn from working on that property? Karen has given me that land including the deed so who the hell does Avery think she is?

As soon as the call connects, she answers after the third ring.

“Hello”

“How dare you, Avery?” I grit in anger, “how dare you try to stop Mr Zayn from using that land?”

“That property belongs to me, Zach” she rasps out, “you can not just up and sell it to someone like it belongs to you. It is mine and if you dare to touch what belongs to me, I will not forgive you”

I can’t help but laugh, just two days away and she thinks she has become something, a force to be reckoned with.

I know her, I have been with her for years and I know how weak and fragile she actually is.

“You know you can’t hide from me, princess” I tell her, “I will find you and I will break you. If you don’t want me near you, do not create a mess”

“How did I not know what you were, Zach?” Avery retorts, “how did I spend all these years with you and I didn’t know what you were capable of doing. I gave you my life, I gave you everything you ever needed and this is how you repay me?”

“I have warned you, I won’t warn you again”

Not waiting for her response, I immediately end the call as my mind winds off to Zayn again. If I can get into his good books, then I can become much more important than I already am. That man is the alpha king and imagine being in his good books.

My lips stretch into a smile, anything to get him on my side.

“Go to the hotel” I tell the driver, Karen is waiting for me and I can’t wait to hold her in my arms. Karen and I go way back, even before Avery manifested as my mate but that’s a secret that was only known to the two of us. Truth be told, I didn’t want to give her the divorce papers that day but when she barged in on us having s*x, I had no choice. I wanted to do it after everything about the property was already sorted out. Well, I don’t regret it, she couldn’t even produce an heir to our pack. She was better off leaving than dead.

The phone beside me buzzes with a message and when I see the content, a huge smirk appears on my face and I immediately call her. She will surely be the death of me.

“Hey baby” her voice filters through.

“Are you trying to make me go mad?” I ask.

“Well, I want you to remember that something sexy and pregnant is waiting for you so you should hurry up”

“Of course baby, I am already on my way back. How about we take a tour in the city later”

“After you have given me what I want, bad wolf”

I love when she calls me that, it is a big turn on for me and she loves messing with me.

“Of course”

As I and the call, Avery’s memory winds its way into my head again. In all the years we spent together, not once did she ever go against me and that’s something I appreciate about her, she was as respectful as a dog and that is one of the reasons why I got bored of her so quickly. No adventure whatsoever.

“Good riddance” I mutter under my breath as I close my eyes, allowing the thought of Karen to fill my mind.

After a while, the driver brings the car to a halt in front of the hotel and I immediately make my way inside.

As soon as I push open the door to our suite, someone yanks me close and backs me against the wall.

Seeing her, a smirk appears on my face.“You can not wait, can you?” I whisper into her ear.

“Blame my pregnancy hormones” Karen replies, her fingers caressing my bare neck, “I missed you”

“I am here now, baby”

“Tell me” she starts to unbutton my shirt, “why did he call you? Was there some kind of problem with the deal?”

“Nothing i couldn’t handle, princess” I snake my hands around her waist and yank her closer, “apparently he met Avery when he went to check the property yesterday and she told him she wasn’t going to sell”

“That b***h” Karen grits, “I bet she doesn’t know that the land no longer belongs to her”

“You need not worry sweetheart. I have already asked him to go ahead with the land and he even paid three times more than the actual price, he loved it”

“If we continue like this, we will surely win the alpha king’s trust in no time”

“Of course” snaking my hand around her neck, I crash my lips on hers.

Somewhere in my head, the image of naked Avery in my head and the heat from my body increases.

“What do you want, babe?” I ask as karma pulls me into the mall, “we have everything you need back in New York”

“Please Zach, we came on a trip so we should make the best of it. Moreover I am not Avery who always tells you not to bother about her. I am a woman and I am pregnant, you have to work with me throughout my pregnancy”

Remind me why I love her again, she is feisty and I love that, unlike Avery who is always so calm.

“Fine, I wasn’t refuting that fact”

“Now chose beautiful lingeries for me babe” her face breaks into a smile, “want to look good for you, you love my body”

“Fine, choose whatever you want. Let me make a call”

“Sure baby”

Making sure she is okay, I make my way towards a secluded part of the mall to receive my call.

“Alpha” Stefan’s voice filters through, he is the beta of the pack and one man I trust the most.

“What happened?”

“Some of our pack members were attacked earlier today, Kathi and Sarah aren’t looking good. They were rushed to the pack healer”

“And the attackers?” Anger surge through me, how dare anyone try to attack my pack!

“We were able to catch two of them”

“Good, lock them up and make sure to torture them. Do not kill them”

“Yes Alpha”

“Good, I will be back tomorrow”

As soon as I end the call and make to walk away, a certain person comes into view and for a moment I have to look at her to be sure she is the one.

“Avery?” I call out to her and she abruptly turns at the sound of my voice, her jaw clenching together the moment she sees me.

“Aren’t you supposed to be in New York!”

She keeps silent, just looking at me. My eyes travel over her. She is dressed in a simple pair of flay pants and a tank top, her hair is held back in a messy bun and she looks like she has seen a ghost.

“I am talking to you”

“Did you follow me here, Zach?” She finally finds her voice, “did you come here to rub salt on my wounds?”

“Do you think you are that important for me to leave New York and come to Seattle?

Avery scoffs, “well, what should i expect from a man like you. One who couldn’t joke his d**k to himself and who couldn’t jerk his eyes off another’s property”

“Don’t you dare!!” I grit in anger grabbing a hold of her hand, “how dare you?”

“Let go of me, Zach!!” She yanks her hand away from mine as something unfathomable flash through her eyes, “don’t you dare hold onto me like that again or I swear”

“What will you do?” Karen asks as she walks up to us, “are you stalking us, Avery? Is it so hard for you to move on after being rejected like the loser that you are?” Her voice is laced with enough sarcasm.

“Why should I?” She scoffs, “I mean birds of the same feather flock together and the two of you are a kind to me”

“So why are you in Seattle then? Did you run away out of fear?”

“And who the heck are you talking to her like that?” Another girl comes to stand beside Avery, “Avery, who is this clown?” She further adds, pointing at me, “you think it’s okay to go ahead and speak to people like you please”

“It’s okay, Naomi” Avery stops her, “let’s just go”

“Of course” Karen chips in, “the walk of shame. That’s what you know how to do best. Back in New York and even here in Seattle”

“And who the heck is this b***h? The lady growls and comes at Karen but I immediately hold her back, placing myself between them but my gaze remains on Avery. She has this look in her eyes, the one she always has when she is disappointed in someone. I don’t know why but i remember it well

“Touch her and I will snap your body in half” my eyes darken as I continue to stare at the two of them.

“Who the f**k is this, Avery?”

“Nobody important” she responds, trying hard to not cry.

“Are you ashamed of telling people that he is the same man that dumped you?” Karen mocks, “are you shy?”

“Oh, you are that fool?” The lady says in a mocking tone, “well, i should have known seeing how big and stupid you look”

“Don’t you dare”

“Touch me” she dares, “and I swear you won’t even see the light of day tomorrow”

I clench my jaw together, who the heck does she think she is?

“Let’s go, Avery” she grabs a hold of her hand and pulls her off.

“f**k you!!” Karen calls after them, “what nonsense”

“Not to worry love” I drape my hand over her shoulder, “I know how to deal with people like her”As I watch them go, another set of anger envelops me and the urge to break avert even more becomes Intense.

“I will break you, Avery” I mutter under my breath, my eyes darkening at the thought of that.
