CHAPTER SIX

ZAYN’s POV.

A knock on the door makes me look up and my assistant walks into the office.

“Good morning sir”

“Tell me” I return my attention to the document in front of me.

“Mr Hills is here for you sir”

“Hills?”

“The man who sold us the property”

At the mention of that, anger surge through me. Not only did he attempt to sell a property that didn’t belong to him, he also hurt her really bad. The urge to snap his head in half becomes intense.

“Bring him in” I order and my assistant quickly saunters out.

At that moment, I pick up my phone and dial a number and she replies almost immediately.

“Were you waiting for my call, Little woman?” I ask as a slight smile creeps up on my face, part of me already miss her beautiful face. If not for the work I had together, I would have stayed home all day to spend the entire day with her. At that moment, the office door opens up and he saunters in.

“I was with my phone when you called” she answers, “so there is no need pretending”

“Hmmm” I nod, “you are fine, yeah?”

“Yes, I am”

“Good, I have a meeting now. I will speak to you later, little woman”

“Don’t call me that” I can already imagine the pout of her lips and I laugh gently. I love the fact that she is getting better.

“Okay, little woman. Bye”

I immediately end the call and the smile on my face disappears. I raise my head to meet his gaze.

“Good morning, Mr Zayn” he greets lightly, “I got to Seattle as soon as I got your message”

“Have a seat, Mr Hills” my eyes travel to him and I stifle a smirk. Has he f*****g looked at himself in the mirror before hurting her the way he did?

“Thank you, Mr Zayn” he says as he lowers himself on the chair opposite me.

“Sorry I couldn’t come back to New York that’s why I asked my assistant to ask you to come to Seattle”

“It’s fine, I can understand. Being the CEO of this huge establishment and also the alpha king, it must be really busy for you”

His words make me laugh, look at him acting all humble like he didn’t break little woman’s heart.

“Okay, we should get right to it then” I lean forward, “you must be very busy”

“Of course, I have a lot of work back at the hospital”

“I see. So tell me, the property you sold to us, it seems you don’t own it”

I see how his forehead creases into a frown, “what do you mean?”

“A lady came to me yesterday and said it was hers and she didn’t put it up for sale. She said whoever sold it to me was a scammer and a fraud. That’s why I had my assistant call you to clarify the situation”

Zach laughs gently as he lean back against his chair, “you do not have to worry about that, sir” he says, “we have already concluded the deal, you can go ahead as do with the land as you please”

“If I may ask, do you know this lady in question?”

“Of course” he replies, “she is my ex wife and I can understand her frustration but that property belongs to me. She signed the papers bequeathing it to me and that’s why I decided to sell it. She is just a bitter soul out to cause trouble, do not bother about her”

How I want to laugh so badly, did he just call her a bitter soul? Did he just call little woman a bitter soul? The same lady who cried in my arms last night like it was the end of the world? The same lady’s whose wolf is still broken and might not recover anytime soon”

I ball my hands into a fist at the thought of that, I want to grab him by the neck and shove my claws into him. How dare he sit there and speak badly about her?

“Help me goddess” I mutter under my breath as I continue to look at him.

“So where is she now?”

“I don’t know and I don’t care. We are divorced now, she can do as she pleases. But you do not have to bother about anything, you can go ahead and work on the property?”

“Really?”

“Of course sir”

“Okay then” I flash him another smile, “you know I took one look at that property and I instantly fell in love with it. I said to myself that I was going to appreciate you when I saw you so let me..” I push a check towards him, “this three times the price of that property, just me telling you thank you for selling it to me”

“You really do not have to do this, Mr zayn” Zach says as he picks up the check, “I am glad you decided to buy from us”

“It’s a pleasure”

“Of course” he thrusts out his hand and I take it.

“For now I will be halting the operation on that property but I will call you when your help is needed”

“I am all yours sir”

“Good”

I watch as he walks out of the office and the smile on my face disappears. That scoundrel. How dare he?

Picking up my phone, I call my assistant who rushes into the office almost immediately.

“You called for me sir”

“Halt any work on that property for now until I tell you otherwise”

“And Mr Hills?” He asks, “what to do with him?”

“Nothing for now, I will take care of him myself”

I am going to crush him to a million pieces for what he has done. Cheating on her, getting her sister pregnant, divorcing her and he also had the guts to call her names?

Thinking about it, I ball my hands into a fist as anger continues to envelop me. Something inside of me wants to protect her at any cost, even my wolf can feel it too.

By the time I reach the house later in the evening, I meet Naomi and Avery on the porch and I can swear that Naomi was the one who forced her out of her room.

“Welcome bro” she greets me, a huge grin on her face.

“Good evening, Zayn” Avery greets.

“What are you girls discussing about?” I ask, my gaze still on her.

“Nothing much” Naomi chips in, “I was only trying to make her feel better, “she was in her room all day”

“Don’t try to force her to do anything, Naomi” I tell her in all seriousness”

“She didn’t force me” Avery blurts, “I actually enjoy her company”

“Yeah?”

“Hmm” she nods.

“That’s good then, I will have a shower now”

With one final glance, I make my way into the house. I could see she looked a bit upset about something but I didn’t want to ask her in the presence of Naomi, I will be sure to ask her later.

The thought of Zach finds its way into my head again as the water splash over my body, the urge to twist his neck was so intense that I had to ball my hands into a fist to stop myself but seeing the look in her eyes as I came home, I wish I actually did that.

After showering and getting dressed in a pair of comfortable home clothes, I make my way towards her room and her door is wide open so I just let myself in.

Avery is standing by the window and as soon as she hears me enter, she turns towards me and that is when I see the tears glistening her eyes.

“What happened, little woman?” I hasten my strides towards her, “why are you crying?”

“Was it Zach who sold that property to you?” She inquires and I clench my fist together, nodding in the process.

“That bastard” she mutters under her breath, sniffing back a tear in the process, “how could he..

“Did he call you?”

“He told me to let the land go and not do anything to try and claim it back. He said my sister gave him the deed to the house and he….” Her voice trails off, she looks so upset and in pain.

“It’s okay, little woman” I bend firm to her height and gently wipe her face, “that house is yours and you can do whatever you want with it. No man born of a woman can take it away from you, I will make anyone who does pay for it”

“But he..

“If you want me to f**k him up” I cut her off, “just give me the order and I will make sure to deliver his heart to you”

I must have sounded funny because she laughs a little with tears still in her eyes.

“You shouldn’t cry, little woman. I love it when you don’t cry”

My eyes travel to her lips and I swallow hard, now it is hard or am i just messed up for wanting to kiss her right now?

“I made an appointment with a doctor for you” I decide to change the topic, “he will check you and your baby and before you ask, he is our kind so you have nothing to worry about”

I decide not to tell her anything about Zach’s visit to the company because it will be sure to heighten her anxiety.

“You take care of me so well, Zayn” Avenue says, “how can I ever repay you?”

“Maybe if you stop crying about that jackass. It pisses me off to see you shed tears because of him”

She sniffs back another tear again, “I am sorry, I just…..

“It’s okay, little woman” I gently touch the tip of her nose, “have you had dinner?”

“Not hungry”

“Come, I will make something delicious for you”

Now I will cook? f**k, I want to laugh. I actually want to cook for her and I am excited about it just in one day?

“f**k me, Selene” I mutter under my breath as I take her hand, “and you can’t refuse” I raise an eyebrow at her in the process.

“Fine, I will let you do this”

As I take her hands in mine, the thought of a certain someone filters into my mind and I bite down on my lips lightly. Avery reminds me so much of her that part of it hurts.

“Are you okay?” Her voice jolts me out of my thoughts and I nod.

“Yeah, I am. Just thinking about work”

“Oh”

“Yeah, come I will make you something delicious, little woman”

As we make our way out of the room, the urge to protect her becomes so intense that I drape my hand over her shoulder and pull her to me.

“What..

“Will you let me protect you, little woman?” The words are out of my mouth before I can actually stop myself.

“What are you talking about, Zayn”

“I want to protect you, Avery” I tell her, “from Zach and your sister and anyone who wants to hurt you. Believe me, I am saying this because I mean it. The urge to protect you is extremely overwhelming right now”

“You know you don’t have to be responsible for me, right?”

“Trust me, I want to, little woman” bending down to her height again, our faces only an inch away from each other, “it seems to be becoming my favorite thing to do”

She swallows hard and part of me loves the reaction I am getting from her.

“Good, you do not have to say anything, little woman”

Grabbing a hold of her hand again, I lead her towards the stairs. I will be damned if I let her think about that failure of a man even for a moment and even my wolf agrees with it.
