EZEQUIEL looked away when Jazmin narrowed her gaze at him. They were in the apartment where Jazmin and Ace live. Jazmin sighed and looked at Ace, who kept looking at his parents.
“Ace, go to your room.”
Ace immediately obeyed his mother and left the living room, but before he went to his room, he looked at his father and cheered. “Go, Daddy,” he cheered in half-whispering and half-shouting.
“Acezequiel.” Jazmin called out her son’s name.
When Ace went to his room, Jazmin cleared her throat. “You…”
Ezequiel looked at Jazmin. “About that night…”
“I know,” Jazmin said. “I took the initiative that night. I’m sorry.”
“No. Don’t say that. I should be the one to apologize,” said Ezequiel, looking at Jazmin’s eyes. “I’m sorry. You suffered.”
Jazmin shakes her head. “It’s okay. Ace was the best blessing I have ever received. I didn’t regret having him.”
“That night…”
Jazmin covered her ears. She’s already beet red. “Stop mentioning what happened that night. It’s already in the past. Let’s forget about it.”
Ezequiel smiled. He didn’t answer because he didn’t want to forget that night.
Jazmin suddenly realized something. Her face turned serious. “But if you are here to take him away, I won’t allow it.”
“I won’t take him away from you.”
Jazmin nodded. “Thank you.”
Ezequiel smiled.
Jazmin couldn’t look directly at Ezequiel’s mesmerizing silver eyes, so she looked away. She didn’t know what to say, so she became silent. She had many questions in her mind, but she didn’t dare to ask. After all, the man in front of her right now was not human. But she wondered what kind of person Ezequiel was.
“Do you have any questions for me?” Ezequiel asked.
Jazmin nodded. “But I didn’t dare to ask.” She knew that this man was not human. She felt worried, but didn’t feel fear. Maybe because Ezequiel wouldn’t hurt her? She’s not certain about that.
Ezekiel knew what his mate wanted to ask. “I’m not a human. I’m a werewolf.”
Jazmin’s eyes widened. “Werewolf?”
Ezequiel nodded. “I came from the Celestial Continent. Another part of Earth’s dimension is where supernatural beings live. I came to your world because the oracle foresaw that my mate was here.”
“Mate?”
“The one that was destined for me.”
“Oh,” Jazmin reacted, feeling disappointed.
Ezequiel smiled. “It’s you,” he said, locking his gaze with Jazmin.
“Ah?” Jazmin was confused. “It’s me? What do you mean?”
“You are the person who was destined for me. Five years ago, I saw you and at one glance, I knew you were my soulmate. A werewolf can only love one person in a lifetime. So, the other half of me, which is you, was very important.”
Jazmin was surprised. “It’s me. How did it become me?” she asked in surprise. She’s a human, and this man in front of her, in their world, was only a fantasy. It can only be seen in movies. She didn’t expect that werewolves would exist.
Ezequiel smiled. “Maybe it’s fate. I didn’t expect that my mate would be human. But I don’t despise you. I was actually fortunate to meet you in this lifetime.”
Jazmin looked away because she could feel her heart beating fast. She forced a smile. “If I am your mate, then why didn’t you look for me?”
Good for you, Jazmin. You’re the one who runs away. Her conscience told her. You’re throwing your fault at another person.
“I wanted to find you, but at that time, I received a letter from the Celestial Continent, asking me to go back because of the Hunters.”
“Hunters?”
Ezequiel nodded. “They are humans, and they were determined to eliminate us because they thought we were monsters. But rest assured, we’re not like that. We also lived like humans.”
Jazmin was staring at Ezequiel.
“Then the war happened. After the war, I came back to look for you again, but I didn’t find you, no matter what I did.”
“Oh. That time, after I found out I was pregnant, I left that place because I didn’t want to be judged by the people there.”
“That’s how it is,” Ezequiel muttered. “I was severely injured, and I fell asleep for a long time. I just woke up recently.”
“How did you find us?” Jazmin asked. Ezequiel said that he was looking for her five years ago and didn’t find her. How come he found her now? And Ezequiel knew that Ace was their son.
Ezequiel scratched his neck and smiled innocently. “After I fell into a deep slumber, my primordial spirit left my body. I used that opportunity to find you, and when I finally found you, you had already given birth to Ace. I stayed with you for the past four years.”
Jazmin was surprised and pointed at Ezequiel. “You…”
“What’s the matter?”
Jazmin facepalmed. “No wonder, I always felt I was being watched,” she said, looking at Ezequiel. A worried expression showed on her face. "Ezequiel, you're not human. So, Ace… he is…”
“You don’t have to worry about him. He will be fine. When he turns sixteen, that’s the only time he will shift into his wolf form. He will welcome his wolf. I will guide him. But for now, he was just a normal kid, but had abilities that a werewolf has.” Then Ezequiel wrinkled his forehead. “You don’t seem surprised.”
Jazmine entwined her hands and placed them in her lap. “If you have been with us for the past four years, then you should know that Ace was not normal, like other kids. He has heightened senses.”
“You’re right. He was different from normal kids.”
“Half-werewolf, half-human,” said Jazmin in a low voice. “Why do I feel like I was dreaming?”
“You’re not dreaming, Jazmin.”
Jazmin looked at Ezequiel. She said, “I’ll be in my room. You can go to Ace and play with him. He has been waiting for you.” She smiled and suddenly lost her smile. “But don’t take him away.”
Ezequiel smiled. “Rest assured.”
Jazmin left the small living room and went to her own room. After she entered her room, her legs became weak. She leaned on the door and let herself sit on the floor. She closed her eyes and took deep breaths.
She felt like she had lost her strength talking to Ezequiel. Today, she learned many things that she wasn’t supposed to know.
Jazmin opened her eyes. Ace and Ezequiel finally met; they had recognized each other. As for her, she was just a normal girl who was a student before she met Ezequiel. She didn’t expect that she was a werewolf’s mate. As a result of her stupidity before, Ace was born.
Jazmin messed up her own hair and pushed herself to stand. She walked towards her bed and sat on the edge. The things she learned today were still processed in her mind. After a few minutes, she realized something.
“Wait… what did Ezequiel say? I am his soulmate, his other half? Is he insane? I didn’t agree to it,” Jazmin said and sighed. “What have I gotten myself into?” she asked herself.
Sighing, Jazmin walked out of her room. While going to the kitchen, she passed by Ace's room. She couldn't stop herself from peeking inside and saw Ezequiel and Ace sleeping next to each other. Ace was sleeping on Ezequiel’s arm. Ace longed for his father, and as a mother, she wanted her son to be happy.
Four years… Ezequiel accompanied them with his primordial spirit. Jazmin didn’t believe it at first, but after gathering her thoughts, she realized that it was true. Since she was a child, she believed supernatural beings existed in this world. It was because of her grandmother, who used to tell her stories about them when she was still alive.
Celestial Continent… That didn’t surprise her because her grandmother had told her about that place before. She just didn’t ask if it was real. Her grandmother loved to tell stories, so she didn’t believe the stories she used to tell her before going to bed and thought they were just bedtime stories. But after having Ace, she realized that supernatural beings were living in this world. It’s just that they were living in another dimension. She didn’t tell Ezequiel she knew about it because she didn’t have to. After all, she didn’t believe it before.
Jazmin gently closed the door and walked towards the kitchen. She wore an apron and cooked dinner. While cooking, she couldn’t help but think of the future. The future was unpredictable. Many things will happen in a second.
“Ace will be safe, right?”
“Don’t worry, he will. I will protect him.”
Jazmin was startled when someone spoke behind her. She quickly looked at Ezequiel. “Can you make a sound when you walk? You startled me.”
“I’m sorry.” Ezequiel apologized.
Jazmin took a deep breath. “Where’s Ace?”
“Still sleeping.”
Jazmin nodded. “Ezequiel, about Ace… I don’t know what norms you have in your dimension. But I can see that in the future, you will take Ace to your world.”
Ezequiel nodded. “I won’t lie about it. I really wanted to take both of you to the Celestial Continent.”
Jazmin chuckled. “Forget about me. I knew that people like you never get old. I’m a human. I can only live a short time. Not to mention, I will get old in the future.”
“If you want to become like us, it is possible—”
Jazmin raised her hand, making Ezequiel stop talking. “Forget about it. I’m not interested,” she said as she turned off the stove. “You should now wake up Ace. Let’s have dinner, but I don’t know if human food suits your taste.”
Ezequiel smiled. “Before I met you, I’d been in the Human Race for a year.”
“Oh,” Jazmin reacted. “That’s good, then. I won’t have a hard time,” she forced a smile.
“I’ll wake Ace up.”
Jazmin nodded and prepared the table. She was used to preparing two plates and forgot about Ezequiel. She only remembered when she saw him coming into the kitchen with Ace.
“Let’s eat.”
Jazmin watched Ezequiel take Ace to the sink and wash their hands together. He seems to be familiar around him. Right, Ezequiel was a primordial spirit who was with them before.
So, he had seen everything — Jazmin thought of something.
If Ezequiel was a primordial spirit, staying with them before, then that means he had seen everything happening inside the house.
Does that mean that Ezequiel was also prying on her privacy?
Jazmin’s eyes widened. No way!
