CHAPTER 7 EMMAS POV

1840 Words
Elijah staring directly at me sent a chill up my spine. Other than the times he made my life a complete disaster at school, that was the first actual time that he just stared directly into my eyes. He also looked mad. Why would he be mad? Maybe because his two best friends were talking to me? I am not going to let it bother me. I am actually having a good time so never mind him and his weirdness. It was starting to get later and later so I decided to say goodbye to Noah and Allison and search for Kev. I walked back into the house and combed through the party that seemed to be getting smaller since everyone was leaving and finally found him on the phone. He saw me coming and rushed to end the call. "Listen I'll call you later or you can text me when you get home...ok...bye" and hung up so fast that I began to wonder who was on the phone. Like I said, my curiosity will most likely get the better of me. "Kev who were you rushing off the phone with? Hmmm? Does my dear brother have a secret girlfriend?" I smirk and he laughs and brushes it off. "None of your business little sis" Ugh just because I am somewhat smaller than him he knows how to piss me off about it ALL. THE. TIME. We finally return home and I am grateful to see my bed that I simply plop down on it and revel in its plushness. I am beyond exhausted but then remember that I have to set my alarm for tomorrows first tutoring session. At least I feel a tiny bit better about it knowing Allison and Noah are going to be at least be civil. Do not need any childish drama. I am doing them a favor. It's the Queen Bee and her boy toy Elijah that I have to worry about. God only knows how Elijah will act tomorrow. He has been acting weirder and weirder. I go from most invisible to the star of the show. Not wanting to think about it anymore I set my alarm and then lie down and sleep takes me instantly. The next morning I wake up earlier than expected and head downstairs smelling the sweet aroma of breakfast. Moms cooking her famous pancakes and dads busy reading the newspaper mumbling something to himself. He scarily senses my appearance in the kitchen and puts his paper down. "Good morning darling daughter of mine. Heard you and your brother coming in late last night. Need I remind the both of you of what the meaning of curfew is?" He raises an eyebrow at me and I immediately deflate. My mom turns around while flipping pancakes and looks straight at him. "Oh honey, they're heading towards adulthood and she had her brother with her. That boy alone looks like her bodyguard so cut them some slack for goodness sake!" Mom scolds dad while mixing another batch of pancake batter. She gives him a smirk and wink before turning back around to pour the batter in the pan. I begin to laugh and my father rolls his eyes. He begins to mumble again but I can hear what he says behind his newspaper. "Some backup I have here from my lovely wife. I could have sworn we were on the same team." He says very sarcastically, huffs in annoyance, and flips the page continuing to read his paper. Kev finally walks in looking all flustered. His hair is mangled and he looks like hell. I throw a rolled up napkin at his head and he scowls. "Dad just blasted us for coming home late. I put full blame on you since your were my ride." I smile so wide my cheeks hurt and the look he gives tells me that he wants to kick my ass. I keep smiling wide before stuffing my face with moms pancakes. I love these pancakes to death! Kev just stands there and grunts. "Too early for accusations. I am still half asleep. Get back to me later." He sits down and waits for his pancakes. I giggle at my brother because he has never been a morning person and continue on eating. I finally finish my delicious breakfast and head upstairs to get dressed for the first day of tutoring which I really do not want to go to. I throw on basic clothes. Jeans, t-shirt, and my favorite hoodie that keeps me all snuggled and warm along with my favorite high top converse sneakers to complete the look. It is still too early to head to the school so I text Melanie Me: Morning Mel, how was the dinner? Mel: Nope, no talk about the dinner. I want to hear about Queen Bee being yelled at by your brother. Its the talk of the school right now. Haven't you heard? Girl was mortified all night. Looks like her cozying up to your brother has ended before it even began! Yay! Me: Really? I wasn't paying too much attention at the party. I was actually in the backyard for most of the night talking to Allison and Noah. Mel: ????????????????????? Me: Ill tell you all about it after my tutoring session. Want to meet up afterwards? Mel: Oh yeah..you have to tutor the assholes today. Yeah sure I am free today. Maybe we can head to the mall afterwards. I feel like shopping. :) Me: You always feel like shopping. Ok. Ill call you when I get out. Mel: Ok. Be careful with them Em. I will head there in a second if they begin to bother you. I've also got a secret weapon that I will bring with me. ;) Me: LOL. Thank you. See you later! After texting with Melanie I head downstairs saying goodbye to my mom and heading out for my first day as a tutor to the four horsemen of the apocalypse. I walk to school and have everything ready in my mind to try and help these four. When I finally get there, I see the beautiful Ferrari parked outside and gulp. Here goes nothing. I reach the classroom and to my surprise The Quads of Torment are actually waiting for me. Well, I cant say The Quads of Torment since I see that Tammy is not here. Probably bought her way out of Saturday school. Not at all surprised. I am going to take that as a good sign. Allison and Noah immediately say hi to me and all I get from Elijah is a look and then back down to him doodling on his paper. I plop down at the table they are all sitting at and take out my notebook. "Ok so what do you guys actually need help with? Is it what we are currently learning or something else?" Allison tells me the algebra is whats giving her headaches and Noah says the fractions are what confuses him. I look to Elijah but he says nothing. Not one word. He keeps doodling and when I grab his attention and ask "How about you, Elijah?" he simply says "I'm good." and goes back to doodling. Seriously? I do not understand this boy at all. One minute he's staring at me following me to my locker and the next minute he is zip lipped and won't even look at me. I am getting such a headache from him. His mood swings give me such whiplash. I start to help Allison with her troubles and then help Noah. They seem to understand little by little so I write down some problems on the smart board and have them all try and figure it out without my help. By the time the session is over I look over their work and Allison and Noah definitely need extra help but it is Elijahs work that has me stunned. He got every answer correct. Still surprised he actually did the work. Least he did that much. Moody asshole. He even showed the work and everything. Why is he even here? I glance at him with an eyebrow raised. I clear my throat but he still won't look at me. Should I wack him in the head to get his attention? I shove the paper down on top of whatever he is doodling and ask him the question that I've been wanting to ask. "Elijah you got every answer right. Why does Mrs. Russo think you need tutoring? Why don't you show her that you know what you are doing?" I am so confused and waiting for his answer. He finally sighs and looks up at me. About damn time stubborn ass. "I know the work I just choose to not care really. With who I am, I am not going to be denied graduation next year so I am not going to stress it." Egotistical much? I shake my head. This guy really thinks money and influence will take him anywhere. "At least show some initiative. Yeah you might get away with not doing the work but money is not going to always buy your way out of things. Stop hiding your smarts and just do the work. You clearly do not need the extra help so I'll let Mrs. Russo know." He looks at me and shrugs. "Whatever." He crumbles the paper in his hand and leaves in a huff. Allison and Noah watch us talk and then when Elijah leaves Allison walks over to me. "Don't mind him. I am pretty sure you know that his attitude is what makes him, well, him." Noah snorts, laughs and chimes in. "Elijah is just too much reliant on his family money that he thinks everything will just be at his disposal once school ends. This is why Allison and I are trying to get our diploma the right way. We do not want to always depend on our families connections. We want to make something of ourselves our way." Allison nods and smiles. I take in what they are saying and I can agree with them. At least they are showing the teachers that they are trying. I respect that. We say our goodbyes and I immediately call Melanie. She picks up on the first ring. "I am right outside. Just saw Elijah looking all grumpy and moody. He hopped into his car and sped out of the parking lot like he was being chased. He is such a hothead that it is just too funny to watch. Remember the angry thing from Inside Out? I bet they made that character based on him!" I laugh so hard that I snort and look around and make sure nobody heard me and hear Melanie saying "Heard that!" I roll my eyes and hang up on her before she could say anything else. I walk out of school and see her waiting outside and we then begin our journey to the mall.
