Chapter 5 - Shocking

2028 Words
LAVENDER'S POV Knowing that my best friend also has a crush on someone I'm a little bit attracted to, it was shocking. I mean, I'm not planning to be rivals with my best friend just because I'm also attracted to the Damon guy, but seeing Jada head over heels to the school's basketball MVP, it was a little bit weird. But just because I have this little liking for the school's basketball MVP doesn't mean that I'm starting to act like a fangirl. I was serious when I said to the dude Larry Jones that I don't want to be in a relationship. I already had issues with my parents, and I think it's already enough as they have me, being their problem. That's why Jada was also right when she said that I wouldn't be a problem to her fangirling. After all, I'm a bisexual. I can still like some people in silence. Admire some pretty girls and be attracted to those who are attracted enough. But Jada, being a fangirl now, has been giving me headaches lately. It has been three weeks since I told her about my sexuality. And it's been three weeks now since Jada started dragging me to come over to her house just to create giant banners and buy some materials for her tricks just to be noticed by the great, most valuable player of our school. I was relieved to notice that Mom had no problems coming over to Jada's house and had a sleepover, only to be fooled after knowing that my Mom was bribed by Jada's mother, Mrs, Jade. "Come on now, Lavender. Chill. Let our Mother do their thang, you know. They haven't had a great time since they had us," Jada said while cutting a big letter D out of the red card stock we had bought earlier to the National Book Store. "Really, Jada? Salon and Spa? Relaxation? Do you think Mom will be relaxed after Mom finds out that I left Dad alone in our house? She will be furious, Jada. She will once she finds out that I didn't help Dad with our house chores," I said, even if I'm looking like overreacting. I just can't stop being scared. And it was Mom we were talking about. I know how Mom reacts every time she finds out that I did not do my chores. She hates it every time I leave some errands undone. Once I was grounded, Mom took all of the things that I like being my past time, like watching medical documentaries on my laptop or the books that I bought after saving the pocket money that Dad always gives me. Oh, god! I'm so doomed once Mom finds out that I'm here at Jada's house. I can't let Mom take away my things again! "Geez, Lavender!" said Jada as I saw the card stock she's cutting turned into a mess. What did she do now? I stand up from sitting on Jada's bed before walking towards her. I raised my brow and saw the paper she was cutting earlier was now torn. "What happened?" I said, looking at Jada's irritated face. "What did you do?" "If you like, after we are done here, we can come by to your house tomorrow, after the game. Then I can help you with whatever you need to finish before your Mom gets home," Jada said, which made me confused. "What?" "It's because of you I have torn this! You are supposed to be helping me! Not worrying about your Mom," Jada said, which made me raise my brow. "Oh, wow! So I'm at fault here?" I said sarcastically, feeling irritated for how inconsiderate Jada is acting right now. "Tch!" Jada dropped the pink scissor she held on her study table before standing up and facing me, which made me take a step back for feeling a little bit of discomfort. What the heck is going with my best friend? Jada's b***h today. Tch! "What the heck is wrong with you? Am I the one who did that?!" I said, pointing at the card stock she had ripped. Jada raised her brow at me, crossed arms, she spoke. "No! But if only you stayed calm and started helping me, we would be able to finish this banner earlier than expected! So are you with me or not?" she said as she put her hand onto her right waist. I rolled my eyes before raising up both of my hands, an indication of giving up. I don't want to fight with Jada right now. Fighting with her is nonsense anyway. Jada nodded, now smiling, for I have given up. "Good. Help me cut this one..." She said and turned around to take the card stocks we had bought. "While I do the design for my new cheering uniform that I will be wearing on Damon's last game." Still feeling irritated, I took the card stocks from Jada's hands together with the scissor before walking towards Jada's bed. I placed the card stocks on Jada's bed while I was seated on the floor. Dang it! I want to support Jada from the things she's happy but exerting too much like this for a boy who's simply impossible to notice Jada is definitely a waste of time. We don't definitely know what kind of person the Damon dude is. I'm annoyed for how much time, money and effort, me and Jada have wasted but since Jada needed my help, I will help her. Even though I'm still unsure if I should let Jada do things making her stupid for our school's MVP. It was already seven in the evening when Jada and I arrived at the Gymnasium Hall of our school, wherein the last tournament for our basketball team was held. The Hall was almost filled with women in our school's every grade level who are sure to support our school's team. "Goddamn it, Jada!" I said as I saw Jada falling behind from a group of incredibly loud schoolgirls. "Quick! Before someone else took our seats!" "I hate you!" I heard Jada say as I continued to get through from everyone who was frisky, even if the game had not started. "It's not my fault having an upset stomach because of your egg sandwich, Jada," I said, annoyed. I shouldn't have eaten Jada's egg sandwich. Even if I was the sole reason for not sticking to our plan to come earlier, Jada's egg sandwich was at fault. I never thought she would give me food that's been ignored since yesterday. I was furious and embarrassed while having a session in the girl's comfort room before the tournament even started. "Damn it, let me through, urgh!" I said, holding Jada's banner with extensive care. "Hey! Jada!" Kelly was waving her left hand when my eyes found her. She was in the second row of the gymnasium bleachers near our school basketball member's bench. Smiling, made me blush a little bit. "O, come now!" Jada said behind me before pushing me aside to get through when she suddenly turned around and grinned at me. "Don't worry, I won't say to Kelly that you have a crush on her," she said before she continued to walk down and approached Kelly. Geez! I really must start practicing to hide my emotions from Jada, or else she will have a ton of people's names she can use to blackmail me. I trust Jada but letting her know every person I'm attracted to will give her every chance to use it and get whatever she wants from me. Just like now, Kelly is just someone I'm admiring. Kelly's a secretary of our Supreme Student Government, and she's from another building that I don't usually see. Still, after Jada notices how I look at her, she instantly teases me. I sighed before walking towards Jada. I was about to take the seat beside Jada when she quickly took the banner in my hand as she showed it to Kelly, who seemed like not even seeing me, only Jada. The pain of being ignored was instant. It hurts a little bit, but what can I do? Kelly might even freak out once she found out that I admire her or that I'm bisexual. So yeah, maybe rendering my emotions is needed at all. Not because of Jada but because I'm also afraid once everyone find out about my sexuality. I just want to have a peaceful school year until I have accomplished my goal, but I will need to keep my feelings private to do so. Not that I don't trust Jada, but because I'm protecting myself from giving people a chance to bully me. I may be overthinking, but I know that my silence will be paid off with living peacefully someday. Preoccupied, I sat down quietly beside Jada's seat. I watch everyone getting excited about the last tournament. Observing how everyone supports the basketball members they are after, I keep my mouth shut until suddenly, Jada stands up together with Kelly. "Where are you going? The game is about to start any minute now?" I asked, confused. Jada just smiled while holding Kelly's wrist. "Just going to the locker room, Kelly forgot something. Right, Kelly?" Jada smiled then smiled, a smile that I have never seen on Jada as if she's hiding something. I looked at Kelly. She has this nervous smile, too, while nodding her head at me. "Y-yeah! We will get back quickly," Kelly said before Jada dragged Kelly away. "That was weird," I muttered below my breath before shrugging my shoulders. "Weird, Jada," I said when the ringing sound around the Gymnasium Hall started. Everyone immediately shouted and cheered when they saw the basketball members they were siding on coming out from the other gymnasium entrance. The crowd immediately went wild. The Gymnasium Hall was filled with shouts from the basketball team fans who are now competing for the last tournament tonight. "Now, where are those two?" I said as I wore off the jacket and cap I was wearing before letting down my newly bleached color white hair. I smiled as I looked at my hair which is now colored white. Jada was right when she chose my hair color. I'm not just going to like it. I really, really love it. After admiring my hair for a second, I quietly listened to the MC as he announced that the last tournament was about to start. I was focused on the master of ceremonies when a girl near the next column of bleachers squealed. "Oh, my God!" Huh? The girl was looking in a direction with her wide eyes. She's like being electrified, moving her body with excitement and both of her feet stomping the bleachers. She was biting her lip together with a woman who also seems like excited until I saw what they were looking at. My breathing immediately stalled as I stared back at the blue ones of the man who was now climbing up to the bleachers between the woman who squealed earlier and me. Murmurs from the crowd started circling around the gymnasium as everyone watched every climb of our school's great, most valuable player, Damon, in the bleachers. I can feel my heart beating slowly as it seems like everyone around me has become blurry. Oh, s**t! Holy s**t! Jada will definitely pass out once she witnesses this. Goddamn it, Jada! I turned my head to the entrance, where Jada and I had entered earlier. Where the heck is that woman? I took my cell phone and started typing a message for Jada. Damon is going to sit in beside someone, and seeing who it is will make Jada real heartbroken. "Damn, this girl. Where is she?" I said before clicking the send button when I noticed my surrounding became quiet. "Oh, no..." "Is that the girl Damon will be sitting in?" "She's beautiful. Who is she anyway?" Hearing those murmurs, I immediately look at Damon. Only to find out that he's standing beside me. Tall, wet with sweat, and gorgeously handsome.
