Jake and I sat in silence for a while, feeling more like hours than minutes.
The surrounding sounds seemed to have settled us, even though it wasn’t much. It was calming to hear the whistle of the wind or animals running around.
“What is the plan for mate?” Jake asked suddenly, curiously. “There is no way I am going near that—”
“You may have to,” I said, cutting him off with my words. Taking a moment to let those words sink into his head. His eyes darted back at me, full of fury, but he needed to hear what I was saying. “Jake hear me out.”
