Kate woke up and sensed a movement beside her. When she turned she saw Ace getting out of bed.
"Ace?" she called his name and rubbed her bleary eyes. Ace turned around and flashed her a smile.
"Love, I'm sorry I woke you up," he said and walked over to her side, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead.
"Hmmm, it's alright. Where are you going?" Kate asked. She glanced at the clock on the bedside table and saw it was already afternoon.
"Just outside, love. Owen and I were going to talk," he said. "I called a servant earlier to bring food just in case you get hungry," he added, and stroked her hair. Kate slowly sat and pulled the blanket to her chest.
"Okay, I'll eat and return to the packhouse. I'll stay with Eve until you're done," Kate replied with a smile.
