I sighed as I set my phone down on the coffee table with a trembling hand. My chest was tight, and my mind was racing. The call from Cole had come out of nowhere, and even though I was relieved to hear from him, it had done nothing to calm my nerves. I was still worried about him. More so now than before. I couldn’t quite get over how his voice had changed when he had heard about Adam.
“Hey,” Adam said softly as he shifted closer to me on the couch. “Are you ok?” I glanced over at him, his eyes filled with concern. Adam had been nothing but patient and kind since he had shown up unexpectedly in Chasea. And once again, he was here to comfort me.
“I’m…fine,” I said softly. Adam nodded as his gaze lingered on my phone.
“Was that...I mean, you kept saying his name…Cole…” he was fish
