Kane's POV The tent flap dropped behind me and I forced myself to keep walking. Every part of me wanted to turn around and go back to her, to sit there and watch her breathe, keep my hand on hers so I could feel through the bond that she was still alive, still with me. But It's been weeks since we have been here and there we needed to go back home. The night air hit me cold and sharp. Smoke from the cooking fires was drifting up into the sky, mixing with the smell of steel and whatever herbs the healers were using. Warriors moved around the camp quietly, armor clinking, all of them looking exhausted but when they saw me, they straightened up, watching me with that look I'd been seeing since we left the fortress.
