Kane’s POV The long oak table stretched before me, covered in maps, scrolls and open books. Wax from the half-melted candles had dripped onto the wood, leaving pale streaks across the surface. The flames were burning low. I had been staring at the same map for so long that the borders and inked lines seemed etched into my vision. My eyes burned but I couldn’t look away.
